re: Isuzu planning to launch MU-X. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 23.99 lakhs

With the very limited dealership/service support, and the fact that Isuzu is still a pretty much unknown brand in India, there is no way MUX is going to sell if its priced even remotely close to Endeavour / Fortuner. Sales will materialise only if its priced well within 20 lakhs on road (top end 4x4 variant with essential safety features like 6 airbags).

Even then it will take a while for the brand to make its presence felt, provided the trucks prove their reliability and value for money tag. I firmly believe the company needs to keep its profits at bay for a while and establish itself as a serious long term player first. Otherwise, its going nowhere.

This kind of looks a little like the new Fortuner. However one thing I am trying to figure out is why are the wheel wells so big, the tyres look tiny. They almost look like they have been raised to fit monster truck tyres. Maybe I do not understand, I guess this must help in some way with water wading ability or off roading.

Well, only the cheapest 2 variants of XUV fall below the sub 20 lakh on road price point. I am not sure if Isuzu can manage that kind of pricing. In AP, with no lifetime tax applicable, maybe. But highly doubt it will be sub 20 anywhere else.

That said, I hope Isuzu proves me wrong and surprises us! 😀

re: Isuzu planning to launch MU-X. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 23.99 lakhs

I got a chance to speak to someone from Isuzu India recently. As per him, the MU-X is coming by this festive season and will sit in the Tucson to Fortuner bracket. So basically he was hinting at a 25-28 Lakhs price-range for the MU-X.

Thanks M!! I'm assuming 25-28L that he mentioned is ex-showroom prices. In that case, the OTR price will be around 28-31L

In this case, the Endeavor makes more sense and the Fortuner is just a couple of lakhs more. Wouldn't Ford & Toyota make more sense than a relatively new brand with far lesser service stations?!

That's probably the target price for Isuzu.
MU-X is essentially a Chevorlet Trailblazer with an Isuzu badge and Trailblazer retails at 24.5 Lakh ex showroom Bangalore.
Trailblazer is sold with a proper SUV engine, 2.8 L Turbo diesel with an output of 200 BHp @ 3600 rpm and 500 NM @ 2000 rpm!!. That makes Trailblazer the SUV with the highest torque below 30 L. The only downside is its 2WD drive system.

It will be interesting to see the engine and drive train configuration of MU-X in India.

If Isuzu launches MU-X in India with a 4*4 version and with a price tag below Endeavour and Fortuner it will surely shake up the SUV market. They can even try to undercut Chevorlet Trailblazer if they launch it with the engine from Isuzu D-Max.

If wishes were horses:4WD, MT, low ratio and MLD. 5L less ex-showroom than Fortuner.

Not too impossible! The Dmax is 13.38 ex showroom (Delhi) and this adds a rear passenger cabin , leather seats, a music system , third passenger seat row. Logically these things can be added for less than 3 lacs. If Isuzu is sensible, they can easily price it starting 17 lacs and that price bracket is completely empty for SUVs as both Endeavour and Fortuner have moved substantially up! But as you said, we can only wish and hope that wishes do come true!!

re: Isuzu planning to launch MU-X. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 23.99 lakhs

The VCross with 4WD hardware is about 16.5 lakhs on the road. Obviously with a bigger engine, automatic, better interiors, extra sheet metal, more safety features, etc, etc, it should be about 5 to max 7 lakhs more on the road.

A fully kitted XUV/500 automatic with AWD is about 23 lakhs on the road. I would any day be willing to pay a premium over the XUV for this. Something in the region of 25 lakhs on the road, will be a sweet spot for this vehicle. i.e VCRoss (16.5 lakhs on the road plus 9 lakhs for the extras.

There is a huge void between the top end Hexa/XUV and the Fortuner/Endeavour types. I think there will be good demand in the price gap between these two.

Going by the trend that we are seeing from all OEMs in India, anything less than 20L for MU-X is wishful thinking. Unfortunately, the "proper-SUV" (read 4x4 with built for abuse ladder on frame trucks) market is wide open right upto Endeavour / Fortuner. Isuzu is spoilt for choice here. Add to that no road tax for vehicles registered in Andhra Pradesh. If they price it anything below 25L for the top spec model, then I think it has a potential to do what Fortuner did in 2009.

Isuzu has positioned itself very nicely here in India with confidence inspiring ownerships and making good investments in the country. They seem to be here for good. At least thats what the impression is. Many enthusiasts including myself are closely following them and have high hopes. Interesting times I say.

re: Isuzu planning to launch MU-X. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 23.99 lakhs

That Isuzu can make a profit by selling it at the same price point as Hexa and XUV500 is a given.

But it remains to be seen whether they are planning to capture market share by pricing it a little over the Indian competition or going to play with the big boys and make a killing but sell very few units.

Australian press has rated MU-X as a better car than the Holden.

PS: Chevrolet Captiva (rebadged MU-X) is being offloaded by GM at 23.95 (mentioned on their website)

Agree with you guys.

Saw the MU-X in person, looks neat.
If they price it at 25 lakhs on road ,it will be a run away success.
Hope they fill the void in the 22 to 30 lakh bracket
