Audi Q7 2.0 petrol imported into India for homologation

Thank you to the Team-BHP fan (he prefers to remain anonymous) who sent this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts!

Audi has imported a petrol powered variant of the Q7 in India for homologation. This indicates that the company plans to launch the car in India in the near future. The imported Q7 petrol is powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine that churns out around 249 BHP and 370 Nm of torque.

The new Audi Q7 was launched in India in December last year. It is currently offered with only a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that develops 245 BHP @ 2,910-4,500 rpm and 600 Nm of torque @ 1,500-3,000 rpm.

The addition of a petrol variant in the Q7 line-up will allow Audi to sell its high-end SUV in the Delhi-NCR markets. Currently, the Audi Q7 is not available on sale in the National Capital, due to Supreme Court's order that bans the sale of diesel vehicles that have engines bigger than 2,000 cc.

In addition to the Q7 petrol, Audi has also imported a 2.0-litre Q3 diesel for homologation. Since the Q3 currently on sale in India already comes with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, the imported model might feature minor tweaks to the engine's performance and economy figures.

Its good to see the influx of petrol engines. But a 2 litre engine in such a big and expensive vehicle doesn't seem too appropriate.

Hope they launch the same engine in the Q3 also. That would be a good fit and should find some buyers.

When they launched Q3, they had a 2.0 TFSI variant in the list. I never understood why they discontinued it. And it was Quatro IIRC. I don't like this "going back and forth" with the products, leaving existing 2.0 TFSI Q3 customers in the cold...

Well, the power output is still decent as it is a turbo-charged direct-injection petrol.

Audi would happily bring the 6-cylinder 3.0 petrol, but it'll be a guzzler. A 2.0 still has potential for localisation; a fully-imported 3.0 will cost 5 - 7 lakhs extra at the minimum.

In a market that's loving petrols all over again, I think the 2.0 TFSI is the right choice for India.

Good Move 2.0 TFSI should sell well. It should have decent power on hand.

The 2.0 Diesel is also below 2 Ltrs as it is 19xxcc so I guess even that one can be sold in NCR right away on this technicality?

slightly OT but IMHO Audi should seriously consider setting up a manufacturing facility for the 2.0 TFSI Engine in India- This engine has the potential to be the staple choice across the Audi line up, much the same way the 2.0 TDI has been for many years- except that given its figures, this engine can also do duty on the entry level (is there such a thing? ) A8 as well- something the 2.0 TDI couldn't have done

Even though its a 2.0 the power output seems sufficient. Another bonus for Audi is it will say 30tfsi or something of that sort on the rear, so many will not even know its a 2.0tfsi.

New Kodiaq, forthcoming Tiguan, Passat, next A4, the Superb - plenty of takers for this engine. The i.8 TSI is being phased out for this due to superior emissions.
