re: The Skoda Kodiaq. EDIT: Now launched at Rs 34.49 lakhs

Most reviews mention that the 143PS version is better in terms of driveability and the higher 177PS tune suffers from lag and power delivery is peaky. In UK they recommend the 177PS if you're towing a trailer or you really need the power over driveability.

Most journos in UK recommend the 143PS cause of the better low end grunt + better FE.

Leaked! Specs of the Indian Skoda Kodiaq leaked

Thanks to Athul Benoy for sending this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

The Skoda Kodiaq. EDIT: Now launched at Rs 34.49 lakhs-kodiaq-spec-sheet.jpeg

The engine specifications and other details of the India-spec Kodiaq have leaked. The spec-sheet says that the Kodiaq will be available with a 1,968cc, turbocharged diesel engine. This unit puts out 148 BHP @ 3,500-4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 340 Nm @ 1,750-3,000 rpm. While it uses the same 2.0-litre TDI unit as the Tiguan, the Kodiaq has 7 BHP more than its VW Group sibling. The torque figure is identical to the Tiguan's however peak torque is available over a slightly wider rev range.

The Skoda Kodiaq will come equipped with a 7-speed DSG transmission. The spec-sheet also reveals that the Kodiaq measures 4,697 mm in length, 1,882 mm in width, 1,676 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,791 mm. It is longer by 211 mm and gets a 114 mm bigger wheelbase than its VW sibling. The SUV has a maximum ground clearance of 140 mm, which is lower by 9 mm compared to the Tiguan. The 63-litre fuel tank is also smaller in capacity than the Tiguan's 71-litre fuel tank.

Boot space is 270 litres which is 345 litres less than in the Tiguan but that is because the Kodiaq has an additional third row of seats. That said, by folding the rear seats, luggage capacity can be increased to 2,005 litres (1,655 litres in the Tiguan).

The Skoda Kodiaq will be launched in India on October 4, 2017.

So even this massive 7 seater with a 2 litre diesel engine will not be an SUV as per ARAI.
Fantastic rules, helps save us tax.

Turning diameter is 12.2m which is way higher than Endy or Fortuner!!
Why??

Re: Leaked! Specs of the Indian Skoda Kodiaq leaked

Will give tough times for the Tiguan. Even the name KODIAQ feels more interesting than "TIGUAN".

Quite a low ground clearance number though. I guess their under-body protection plates are bringing it down. They are quite good in the Tiguan. Just saw those in the TBHP review .

3rd row of seats would generally always be a welcome in old-school India. But now a days those buying premium cars aren't exactly looking at filling people to the brim (a welcome change). So I don't think that will be the Kodiaq's trump card against the Tiguan.

Re: Leaked! Specs of the Indian Skoda Kodiaq leaked

So the Kodiaq has almost similar bhp (148 BHP @ 3,500-4,000 rpm vs 141 BHP @ 4,000 rpm) and same torque (340 Nm @ 1,750-3,000 rpm. vs 340 Nm @ 1,750 - 2,750 rpm), as Tiguan.

As per the official review, the smaller Tiguan is having "adequate" power !
With the additional dimensions and seats etc. (more weight) , will the Kodiaq be underpowered?

This is not really a surprise and was expected. The VW group needs to have a strategy and segmentation for offering the ubiquitous E288 2.0 TDI engine in India. There are 3 brands (Audi. VW, Skoda) and multitude of car and SUV models that use this engine. The engine is also to be locally manufactured. So they need to carefully position the power/torque characteristics and transmission types to show the differentiation needed across the whole range, from a a 18-Lakh Rupee Octavia Ambition 2.0 TDI to a 60-lakh Audi A6 35TDI, which will all have the same engine. My gues is the following pattern they seem to be following.
  • Base cars such as the Octavia TDI get the 143 PS/320 NM tune which is the lowest tune. Mated to 6-speed manual or 6 speed DSG DQ250 transmissions.
  • The 177 PS tune of the engine is reserved for large sedans like Skoda Superb and VW Passat and mated to a 6-speed DSG DQ250 transmission. Also offered with Audi Q3, which is based on a transverse engine platform (unlike Audi A4/A6/Q5 etc.)
  • New tunes of 150 PS / 340NM offered with newer 4-Motion SUVs such as Tiguan and Kodiaq. These will be mated to the relatively new DQ500 transmission that can also perform 4motion duties. Although globally these vehicles are offered with the choice of 190 PS/400 NM tune, this is not offered in India to prevent cannibalization of Audi cars and SUVs.
  • The top tune of 190 PS/400 NM is reserved for Audi (A4/A6/Q5) and mated with DL500 transmission for longitudinal engine mounts.

Re: Leaked! Specs of the Indian Skoda Kodiaq leaked

Saw the kodaiq at Skoda Trivandrum 2 days back. It was on MH regd plates and white in colour, with 4 to 5 people inside. Are these TD vehicles? Couldn't check it out as I was in a hurry. Have anyone spotted the car at showrooms elsewhere?

Kodiaq with 148 bhp sounds unappealing!
Heard the same from Autobahn. The updated 2018 superb will also come with Park Assist from the Octavia while the Octavia itself will lose the Style Plus variant and go upmarket with its own L&K and ventilated seats.

On a side note, I have been following up with them for a quote and test drive of the Octavia which they have been missing for the past 2 weeks.

Personally, I'm confused. Should I buy the top end Octavia L&K or are the Superb/Kodiaq truly worth the extra moolah.

I saw the Tiguan and found it bland, unappealing and dull. Its got to do with card that use parts from its lower siblings. Just can't stand it.

Re: Leaked! Specs of the Indian Skoda Kodiaq leaked

Most of these forthcoming EU-based DIESEL cars will have a 2L or lesser capacity engine adhering to Euro 6 emissions. Had a chat with Volvo SA, and he confirmed the same too. Even Porsche is contemplating to launch the all-new Cayenne in 2L version.

I genuinely hope Skoda gets its pricing right!

I think in its home market the Kodiaq does come with 190 ps tune possibly in the higher variants.

re: The Skoda Kodiaq. EDIT: Now launched at Rs 34.49 lakhs

340 Nm torque (especially) and ~148 BHP should be just about enough, but won't be anything special. Sucks. Owners who have a full load of 7 onboard will wish for more power.

Yeah man, that is huge! I can't think of a single car that has a 6+ meter turning radius, other than the old Safari & a truck (Isuzu V-Cross).

188 should be more than enough with a Euro-spec suspension. These don't sag with people onboard.

Some people need that 3rd row, while for others, it's "nice to have". All things being the same, most Indian families will prefer 3 rows over 2.

The engine tune should also keep in mind the price, size & weight of car. Today, an Innova comes with 172 BHP . A 20 lakh rupee van having more power & torque than a 35 lakh rupee premium SUV?

I think Quoted one is Turning diameter. If we convert in radius then it would come around 6.10 meter which is fine.
