This makes less torque than Nexon 1.2L.

Wonder if this is due to the gearbox restriction? I hope this comes with 6-speed gearbox and not the regular Tiago, else don't understand why anyone will go for this instead of picking Nexon which offers better engine and gearbox specs.

I reckon a new segment will be created within the petrol hatchbacks; that of Turbo petrols. The 1.2 naturally aspirated petrol engines were mostly inferior to the 1.5 diesel counterparts (Polo TSI being an exception). Better engines like Honda's 1.5 IVTEC, Toyota's 1.5 Petrol were given a pass to small car classification criteria of 1.2L petrol. Cars like Tigor, Tiago should make the affordable hatchbacks fun-to-drive as well.

Should be an interesting launch if this comes in time for the festive season. Also, hoping against hope, qhile Tata showcased the Tiago JTP with 5-speed gearbox, I am silently praying that it comes with 6-speed gearbox from Nexon. If it does, I have already made my impulsive decision!!

While I am really happy to know that the Tiago Sport is going to see the light of the day, I am very confused what is going to be special in this JTP tuned Tiago. From the spec sheet, it makes the same power as the Nexon, and also 20 Nm lower than the Nexon! And since this will be a 5-speed transmission, the ratios are not going to be closely spaced like on the Nexon either. So lower weight apart, nothing is indicating that the Tiago Sport is going to be the special hot-hatch that we have all been waiting for.

While I'm super excited about the Tiago JTP, I just feel that a Tigor JTP would be a better prospect for Tata wrt sales performance.
Now I know that these versions aren't meant for the mass market, but I feel that a Tigor JTP would allow Tata to charge a slight premium. Also it would help the 'Tigor' brand which hasn't exactly set the sales charts on fire, as compared to the hot selling Tiago.

At a time when heavyweights like Maruti and Honda are taking the safer route with their new launches, full marks to Tata for bringing more sporty options!
