Re: The Tata Tigor JTP & Tiago JTP. EDIT: Launched at Rs 6.39 - 7.49 lakhs

Sitting here in Germany, this is the first time I am seriously missing an Indian car. This car has seriously made me think of packing up and going to India, just for the heck of owning one of these. It is not just the figures, its about the complete value for money package, the feeling that I can trash this car and don't have to worry about spending a fortune in maintaining it (think of German car for reference)

Just found out the list of cars that fall in the 9-10 sec 0-100kmph club. Some cool names here! Well, it's now pretty easy and affordable to be a part of this club, all thanks to JTP and Tata

Even though most cars are from the old generations, but if you are a purist, the age wont matter. Just sheer driving pleasure! And Tiago has achieved an entry to this club even after maintaining the gruelling needs of an Indian customer (space, reasonable mileage, price)

That would help JTP to have the piece of cake and eat it too!!
I am not sure if there will be alternate plumbing bypassing the turbo for air intake, making it similar to regular Tiago.
Also, turbos also help in burning fuel more efficiently when tuned for this purpose, examples are numerous turbo diesels.
I think the City Mode may be managing either the air intake or fuel delivery.

+1 I already watched it 4-5 times and really enjoyed it. He just let us hear the engine note, got in to the car, and floored the pedal to let us know what these cars are all about. All within first 1 minute of the review

Re: The Tata Tigor JTP & Tiago JTP. EDIT: Launched at Rs 6.39 - 7.49 lakhs

After looking at all the videos, one thing seemed to be common among all reviewers. They were like kids in a candy store. Most of them were grinning and couldn't wait for the review to finish.

I have had the pleasure of spending time with racers, tuners, garages and the staff from the cream of the crop (Arjun Balu, Leela Krishnan) to the ones who work on the lower end (Esteem, Baleno) and I feel real proud of the fact that Coimbatore has got its due. Racing is in the genes and cars are in the blood here.

Jayem made one of the first indigenous diesels (Jaya Diesel) and have been working with Tata and Mahindra for a long time, besides working on Formula 3 cars. It's a great feeling to see their engineering prowess and passion trickle down to what is essentially a passenger car.

Most people buy their first bikes when in college and in their hearts, a majority of them are petrol heads. But as they move on to cars, they are already looking to settle down with family, the daily pressures of life pushing them on to buy boring cars. The petrol heads tend to lose out because performance-oriented cars are few and the pricing is astronomical.

Tata and Jayem are targetting this group of people who would still be responsible family members but would love to at least occasionally let the kid in them experience the thrills of being a petrol head. These cars are easy on the pocket during purchase and are going to remain easy on the pocket for maintenance too (in comparison to other performance cars).

I really hope these two cars do well, for other manufacturers to take note and bring in sensibly priced performance cars.

On a personal note, I need to wait another 4 months to check out the Harrier before I decide whether to go in for a compact hot hatch or a larger SUV paying twice the money.

Re: The Tata Tigor JTP & Tiago JTP. EDIT: Launched at Rs 6.39 - 7.49 lakhs

I am lost for words for the courage and novelty TATA has brought for the enthusiasts in a price which is attainable and a complete VFM. Alrady a fan of build quality of these cars, the reviews are so overwhelming and i can somehow feel the excitement the reviewers are going through in all those videos.

It is such a brave move and it would be a shame if STILL we do not consider these hot cars while making a purchase decision. The looks are sporty but subtle, the engine is rev friendly but economical, now these 2 combinations are very hard to master and IMHO Tata has done it and what a proud moment it is for the Indians.

I can only say that none of the competitor has such a potent , safe and drool worthy asset in their closet and even if they come up with one ( which i highly doubt) they would not be able to come close to this pricing.

As far as talks regarding buying a dezire or swift/ baleno is going, well all i can say is that i am sorry for the one's who are even considering those products as a competitor. If Maruti gets such a competent engine,it would be a suicide to drive one, owing to their poor structural rigidity and compromised safety standards.

Thank you Tata, i dont know when was the last time i had so much fun watching a car's review and a reviewers excitement and i cant wait to test drive the twins once they hit the showroom.

So, finally a Tata that can compete with other, not just in terms of build quality and VFM, but also performance!

Would be very eager to see how these twins compare to our current favourite, Ford's Freestyle/Aspire diesel twins. Yes diesel is not rev friendly, but it has its own advantages: More torque, better real life FE(a lot better), proven reliability.

The Tata Tigor JTP & Tiago JTP. EDIT: Launched at Rs 6.39 - 7.49 lakhs

JTP will go a long way in improving Tata's image and brand perception.

The good thing for Tata is that the JTP powered vehicles will open up a all new young enthusiasts market for Tata. Tata probably always struggled with getting the young generation into their showrooms and oh boy, that is about to change.

I for one, have never been so kicked about a Tata launch ever. Well done Tata and Jayam. Cannot wait to drive one.

The next step will be to introduce JTPs on all their cars and probably have exclusive showrooms for their performance brand.

All the very best Tata and Jayam.

Guys , I have a polo GT tsi which I 5 years old and I have no issues as such. I have frequent long drives with the family and one practical problem is the boot space. I have started thinking about a bigger car but given how good GT is , the replacement has to be that good. Was thinking of Nexon earlier but getting spoilt with Tigor JTP being in the mix. What do guys suggest.
My usage is approx 40 kms per day and once in 2 months 1500-1800 kms long drives.
May be slightly off topic but wanted to seek your views

Test drive Aspire diesel and Tigor JTP and decide. For ~1750 KM running a month, Aspire may be a better choice. It is fun to drive and fuel efficient. You should test drive JTP before finalizing 😃.

Re: The Tata Tigor JTP & Tiago JTP. EDIT: Launched at Rs 6.39 - 7.49 lakhs

Well Done Tata!!

Looking at the reviews so far, the twins are well worth every penny that Tata's asking for! Moreover, this is also one of the boldest moves Tata has taken, coming out of the dumps in recent years, and still deciding to launch such a niche product which I am sure they know will get them limited numbers only. While this is truly is heart-warming for us enthusiasts, the mass market still does not bother about performance, does it - 'kitna deti hai' (fuel efficiency) is still the predominent factor for most!? Begs the question then, do the twins make a valid business case (read sales, ROI etc.) for themselves!? Don't mean to sound cynical here, but I've really appreciated Tata for their VFM products lately. But that has not entirely translated to proportional sales figures, which I just so hope and wish for Tata to change, and not get bogged down again even if the twins don't manage decent numbers for them.

Just hope, Tata is able to prove that an automobile business can also be about bit of heart, than entirely about mind!

Jtp tiago bit me very hard. I am just pretending my age now but inside i'm messed up. Santro AMT was a no brainer but every thing else apart that brain tells JTP. This is coming from a owner of a 2009 tata nano, merc C, innova touring sport and a creta. My wife says replace nano with JTP red tiago.

Good job Tata

Viddy's sneek preview of Tiago JTP looks exciting.

I'll hold on till the Official review is up and suggest this beast in my office circle.

OT- Mods, can we please have a video review of the exhaust?

IMHO Tata has done a great job here. They could have increased the FE by compromising the built quality but they didn't do which is credible. In fact Tata improved things like suspension, air intake, exhaust, braking and even the visuals in order to separate/differentiate it from the normal Tiago twins.
Also if someone is getting such a performance for just 7 lacs then one shouldn't mind the fuel expenses.
Other performance petrols cost a lot more than this Tiago JTP.

Obviously one should not finalize a car before finalizing it. The Aspire top end (Titanium Plus) would cost at least a lakh more that the Tiago JTP. Refer the comparative on road pricing of both the cars from carwale below.

In Pune the exshowroom price of Rs7.49 lakhs is resulting in an onroad price of 8.77 lakhs.
