The second-generation Mini Countryman has reportedly been spotted testing in India, before its official global debut. The 2017 Countryman SUV will make its world premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, which is scheduled from October 1, 2016.

The new Mini Countryman is based on the UKL 1 platform developed by BMW. This platform also underpins the new BMW X1 and the Mini Clubman. Though deeper details about the car haven’t surfaced yet, sources suggest that the new Countryman would be around 150 mm longer than the model it replaces.

Powering options on the 2017 Mini Countryman will include a range of three and four cylinder, petrol and diesel engines. They will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A plug-in hybrid variant will also be introduced later in the car's lifetime. In the Indian market, the new Countryman will probably only get the top-end petrol and diesel variants, which will be offered with the automatic gearbox.
