Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 4MATIC petrol launched at Rs. 74.90 lakh

Mercedes-Benz has launched a petrol variant of the GLE SUV, priced at Rs. 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The GLE 400 4MATIC is the first variant of the GLE lineup to be available with a petrol engine option in India.

The German automaker has taken this step to address the changing market sentiments and the inclination of customer demands towards petrol variants. The GLE 400 petrol is the seventh car to be launched by Mercedes-Benz India in 2016. It will initially be available as a CBU (Completely Built-Up) model, while the automaker might consider local assembly in the future.

The Mercedes GLE petrol will be powered by a 3.0-litre, V6 petrol engine that delivers 329 BHP @ 5,250-6,000 rpm, and a peak torque of 480 Nm @ 1,600-4,000 rpm. This engine is mated to a 7-G TRONIC PLUS gearbox. It also gets five driving modes - Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Individual, and Off-road.

Some of the features on offer include LED headlamps, electric sunroof, front memory seats, and active park assist. It also comes with Harman Kardon Logic 7 Surround sound system, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay.

Safety features include six airbags, ABS, EBD, and technologies like Crosswind Assist, Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist and Brake Assist.

Now that the ban on diesel engine vehicles over 2000cc capacity has been lifted in the NCR by the Supreme Court, I don't think a petrol powered SUV has the ability to work with decent numbers in the indian market.

However, it may appeal to a niche market for petrol vehicle's and the power output seems nice.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers!

This got here a few months too late, even with the NCR ban I doubt it would have found buyers, it's more expensive than the powerful and economical 350d version. A buyer will be losing more in depreciation, spending more on fuel and risking engine damage if quality fuel isn't easily available. I assume this will give about 5kmpl in town so the cost of running is about 100% higher than the diesel. Mercedes should have worked on a hybrid, something on the likes of the Lexus RX450h, hopefully they imported only a handful of these.

Looks just 3 of these, one for homologation and another 2 for launch, as GTO mentioned elsewhere, it takes hardly an effort to launch a CBU unit, get free publicity and let the model bury somewhere.

The difference between the car imported from Germany and those from the USA is more than double the price. Why so?

So MB India plays very intelligently, they transfer cars to Indian entity at Costs from Manufacturing unit directly, this has got nothing to do with sales prices . You won't find GLE400 retailing anywhere close to $ 22000 USD, which is the value we see on imports from the USA. Since these cars are not manufactured in Germany, they must have got these at a higher value from Germany. Now why did they got this car from Germany for homologation instead of USA, I won't have a clue.
