Audi has temporarily suspended sales of the Q5 SUV, after the Automotive Regulatory Authority of India (ARAI) found its emission levels to be higher than the prescribed limits. The automaker has also stopped production of the midsize SUV in the country for the time being.

Sources closer to the developments have said that ARAI tests revealed higher NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) emissions from the Q5 Diesel. Acknowledging the test result, Audi has recalled all Q5 models from its dealerships across the country, and will soon be rolling out an updated & rectified version that will comply with the prescribed emission levels.

The company has apparently already solved the issue, and has even tested the rectified models with ARAI. The updated Q5s were found to be adhering to emission norms. As a result, Audi will soon be introducing the rectified models in the market, in order to avoid any sales losses during the festive season.

An Audi official has claimed that the Q5 emission issue isn't related to the infamous Diesel-gate scandal of the Volkswagen Group. However, one question remains = what about all the Q5s already on our roads? Audi must issue a recall of all customer cars ASAP.

Did Audi suspend the sales temporarily, or was it ARAI that asked them to suspend the sales?
What about other vehicles from Audi / VWAG that share the same engine + gearbox?

Luckily for Audi, the Q5 isn't a big seller - but at the same time, it does impact their brand image & adds to the perceived pollution spewing diesel engine image: especially in light of all the banning of diesel vehicles by NGT.
Not that it would impact their sales significantly (we are still not an environment conscious country though there has been recent progress).

It is not that Audi have many Q5's for sale. We have a new one around the corner, literally as they are on test in India

So that means, there are other cheating methods besides the smart software? The VW saga just doesn't stop, does it? Damn scoundrels looking for short cuts & an easy buck.

ARAI did. It's a slap on their face. Such scandals are rare in India, the only others being from VW & Chevrolet (link).

Also, for some reason, I missed this piece of news in the regular press - so very few people (other than Team-BHP members) may be aware of this ?
