Datsun Redi-GO Sport launched at Rs. 3.49 lakh

Datsun has launched the special edition redi-GO Sport in India. Based on the top-end S trim, the redi-GO Sport is priced at Rs. 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This translates to a premium of around Rs. 15,000 on the regular redi-GO S variant. The Sport edition will be a limited run model, and will only be on sale during this year's festive season.

Cosmetic changes on the outside include black racing lines over the bonnet and roof, blacked out wheel covers, and a roof mounted rear spoiler. The front grille has been given a gunmetal finish along the border and red accents in the middle. The front bumper and the door panels too receive some black decals. The special edition will be offered in three colours - Ruby, White and Grey.

On the inside, the Datsun redi-GO Sport gets an all-black dashboard with red inserts. Additional features on offer include rear parking sensor, remote keyless entry, and Bluetooth connectivity with the audio system.

The redi-GO Sport is powered by the same 799 cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine as the regular redi-GO. This unit develops 53 BHP and 72 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

It looks cool, specially in white. Personally I like the additional features - key less entry, parking sensors and Bluetooth connectivity. Even the red detailing in the interiors, - on steering wheel, around ac vents and on the wheel covers look nice.

But what would a Redigo owner feel like, when plain jane alto k10 or a simple Kwid 1.0 leaves him in a dust? Nothing so sporty except the name. It would have been great if 1.0 Redigo was launched with this name. Truly a fitting name, it would have been.

But it is truly value for money at that price point.

Agree with you mate. When Kwid 1.0 is launched with a difference of just 22k, Datsun should have followed suit with an even lower price difference. This would have made the sport name worthwhile!

Very nice, but they should be thinking of bringing automatic transmission options more than these cosmetic changes. Atleast in urban market there is a huge void of automatics in this segment, am sure it will sell like hot cakes!

Quite a decent job, I must say! The red will look nice in person...not so sure about the other colours.

The Kwid has proven that economy hatchback customers also want to look 'cool'. The Redi-GO is selling ~3,000 a month and this should only expand its appeal a bit.

As long as it fulfils the 'kitna deti hai' parameter, Datsun should be okay. People talk about mileage a lot more than performance. Even when premium SUVs like the Grand Cherokee & Endeavour came home for our review, my neighbours were sure to ask "what's the fuel efficiency like?".

Renault has demonstrated earlier that it'll keep the nice stuff to itself; Renault wants market-share and won't easily share its USPs with sister concerns. Even if they do, it'll be after long delays. Case in point = there's still no Terrano AWD or AMT.

Datsun redi-GO Sport production increased to 1,800 units

Datsun India has officially announced that production run of the limited edition redi-GO Sport has been increased by 800 units. It was earlier said to be limited to just 1,000 units. However, the company claims to have received overwhelming response for the car, and thus all 1,000 units were sold off within the first month. In order to fulfil the high demand, the company will now be producing 800 additional units of the Sport edition.

Out of 3 colors, the Grey does not look like GREY at all.
Also I feel in that color it resembles JAZZ quite a lot from distance.( Shade is similar to Jazz )

This car looks fantastic, they have managed to make wheel caps look like alloys.

This is nothing but a redefined Nano by Datsun. Surprisingly the company is increasing production means its working well in the market. This car should come with AMT and then this will also kill Nano AMT.

As an ex Nano owner, this car is taking the nano level cars up a notch. While the Nano has better interiors, this car has better ride and more or less same features. Not sure if it comes with disc brakes as well? If yes, this is my pick in the segment.

Yes! Something I first noticed in the picture was the similarity of the Redi-GO's Grey with Honda's Urban Titanium. UT was in fact my favorite color in Honda City and Jazz

At a time when Marutis and Hondas of the world are giving us Alloys looking like wheel caps, Datsun has done a great job with very good looking wheel caps.

Re: Datsun Redi-GO Sport launched at Rs. 3.49 lakh

The success of the Redi-GO Sport limited edition is an indication that Datsun should include more features to the regular variant line-up! The Redi-GO may be an A-segment car, but that doesn't mean a potential Redi-GO buyer doesn't want creature comforts and driver assistance features in his/her car.

The cosmetic bits have been done well, especially the interior colour scheme which surely feels much better than the "greige" one on the regular variants (despite being made of the same materials). But it is the addition of remote central locking, Bluetooth-enabled music system and parking sensors that makes the Sport limited edition so much better value than the regular top variant.

I hope Datsun also plonks in that larger 68 PS 1.0 litre engine into the Redi-GO soon!

Looks nice, if they keep improving on quality parameters, it will be a nice alternative to the city commuters.

You know, that is because of muscle memory. Most guys don't know what else to ask for, save for fuel economy and at best, the price.
