Last week spotted Tata Safari Storme Automatic (yes, you read right) on the Delhi roads.

It didn't seem like a test vehicle, had no covers on registration plates. A couple was in the car. Didn't seem like people test driving the vehicle. It seems like bought by a person from Army (stickers visible on the car).

The car was spotted in Delhi Cantt area (towards Dhaula Kuan).

I searched, but couldn't find any thread on launch of Storme AT.

Had to follow the car quite a bit to get a good picture. I should have a video from my dashcam as well of the vehicle.

If there's a Storme Automatic, it'll need to have gone for homologation & moreover even before that, the company would put it through rigorous testing.

Did you see the gear stick ?

It could be someone who's simply put an "Automatic" sticker. lol Like those people who simply put 4x4 sticker onto their car.

An automatic, that too in the Lx Variant, by Tata, Highly doubtful IMO.

But that "Automatic" badge is uncannily similar to the badging found on the XUV Automatic (Pic sourced from Team-BHP official review.)

Looks like a "Badge Engineered" Storme :)

Considering that it's the lowest variant on the Storme, am sure this is just a "gimmick". Even if launched, I'd expect the Auto variant on the EX (mid variant) or VX (top end).

And I think the Auto launch (if any) will happen only after the Hexa launch, which is supposed to have the automatic gearbox equipped.

Edit:: Why is the 'NA' on the number plate so mis-aligned?

I tend to agree with the others. Even if Safari Storme was to be launched with Automatic, I don't think they would start with the LX variant.

I have seen quite a few people with the Army sticker as well, so am not even sure if this vehicle actually belongs to some one in the army either.
Also Tata Motor's is known to promote their launches, such a quiet launch is not something I that the brand would do. Also considering the number of Safari's being sold I wonder if they will even bother to launch in Automatic guise.
On a lighter note, the Automatic badge on this car has succeeded in doing its job. It has managed to not only get attention on the road but also its own dedicated thread on this forum!

HR 99 -> This is a brand new car running temporary registration plates.

Thanks for sharing! Hat's off to your eagle eyes in spotting the badge. There's definitely more to the story as I don't think anyone would slap a fake badge on a brand new car, still running temp plates.

Himanshugoswami had shared pics of a Safari Automatic in this post:

If an Aria / Hexa can come with an Automatic, I don't see why a Safari Storme with the same platform & engine can't. Would definitely not rule it out. Here's what Tata had displayed at the Auto Expo:

Would certainly expand the appeal of this ol' warhorse.

Shagun Sharma shares the following via email. Thank you! There's very clearly some testing going on and what better than Delhi traffic to finetune an AT.

Hi,

Regarding this thread on the Tata Safari Storme with 'Automatic' badge.

I saw a red plate Tata Safari driven by a person and another with a laptop sitting next to him near ITO, Delhi. Couldn't see any variant badging, but could clearly notice a red no plate. Sorry, no pics as I was standing in a crowded bus. This was in the last week, around 8-8.10 am.

Hi Folks

Doesn't anyone....I mean anyone not know anything about the Storme AT ?
Is it getting launched in India? When?

cheers

I believe TATA will focus on Hexa for some time till they know it's future. Storme AT may not be a priority at present.
