re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

Pricing shall be extremely crucial for this car. I hope it is priced around 25L-30L bracket, to fill up the vacuum, and go on a head-on with the Sante Fe and other off-roaders in that range. The new Passat can be priced in the 30L+ bracket, to compete with the Camry. Pricing the Passat and Tiguan vice versa, just like the Euro markets, would increase the sedan's sales but make the Tiguan DOA.
The new X1 is a great package for 30L+ customers.

The keyword from the press announcement is "premium" SUV. It is bound to be priced upwards of 30 Lakhs ex-showroom, 35 lakhs plus on road, in my view.

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

Heard from VW Coimbatore service center folks when I went to service Polo that the likely launch is 2nd half of May (May 18th most likely) and ex-showroom prices starting at 30lakhs for base model. I feel that's a premium over good models like Tucson and Endeavor. Was thinking of an upgrade; but at 30+ lakhs (if showroom folks are to be believed) then it's a market dud I feel

Lets not believe on the prices till they are officially revealed, Just today my friendly SA from VW said the prices will be around 25 lakhs, He seemed pretty confident & even previously his information has been spot on, I am really looking forward to this car, Eager to see what equipment VW gives us with the car along with the engine options and offcourse the price!

I was referring towards the engine output though, I hope they give us something more than 140bhp, 180bhp wont be too much to ask for i suppose.

It is most likely to be offered in the 2.0-litre diesel making 177hp and 350 Nm of torque, but prices will not be in the range you have been informed of

I never trust any pricing information from no one till the official ones are announced, I do hope its the same output figures that you have mentioned.

There is also the new version of the 2.0TDI that has become available in India with the recent launch of Audi A4 Diesel, with 190hp and 400NM of torque. I think this is one of the tune that goes with the new Dq500 gearbox. The other tune is 148hp and 340nm available in the UK.

Am eagerly awaiting this car. I agree with you about not believing the prices that SAs are quoting cause that will be a closely guarded secret and there is very little chance of an SA being privy to it. I think just like you and me, the SAs are making an intelligent guess.

With regards to equipment being offered, that's going to be my biggest deal maker/breaker as am buying this for my wife and am looking for as many driver aids and safety features as possible. I know we can expect lots of airbags and various 3 letter acronyms in safety features. What am really interested in is whether VW will offer some of the features they offer in Europe like a HUD, a fully digital instrument cluster called Active Info Display, Area View that provides a 360 degree view of the car etc. Ideally, you could have a base variant at 25+ lakhs, without these features, that competes with the likes of the Tucson, and then a more premium 30+ lakh variant with these features. At least, that is what I am hoping for .

Really hope so too. 140 bhp is still good but 180 or more would just make it such an attractive package.

Keeping my fingers crossed here.

Source also confirmed that the booking for Volkswagen Tiguan will start from mid of April and, at present, the company is under process to give product training to all the sales consultant at dealership levels.
Engine likely to be same as Superb TDI (180 BHP) but with 7 Speed DSG.

Quote:
Tiguan will only be available in diesel; powered by 2000cc engine mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. It is also expected that it will come with an all-wheel drive, unlike Chevrolet Trailblazer which comes with two-wheel drive.

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

Hi,

Expect Tiguan to be priced very competitively in India as per the global trend.

Saw the below Advertisement in Malaysia

Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs-img_1709.jpg

Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs-tiguan.jpg

The starting price in Malaysia is approx 21.75 lakhs. There is an early bird discount as well. Something to look forward to in India as well.

Volkswagen imports 2016 Tiguan into India for testing purposes

If the Yeti is priced at 29-30 on road as of now, the Tiguan will most certainly come in at 32-35 on road. No way they will price it on par with the Yeti.
The Tiguan may play in the same space but it is a half size bigger than the Yeti.
And VW is positioned at a premium over Skoda in any case in terms of brand value, so the above speculation seems to me to be about right.

Would I buy one?
Nope!

I'd rather consider the top spec 4x4 Jeep Compass at a roughly similar price point if at all I upgrade. Or perhaps the Merc GLA even...

The most sensible thing I can do right now is sit tight and enjoy my Yeti for a while longer. At least for a year or two more.
