re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

Looks are very refined just like all other VW products. No clarity on launch dates . Chennai dealer is telling that Tiguan will be launched first followed by Passat. Passat will be priced higher than Tiguan.

If priced higher than 25L, not really worth it.

For India, the Tiguan is bound to get the option of petrol and diesel engines. Transmission duties will be handled by a 7-speed dual-clutch unit, and the SUV will be available in both front-wheel-drive and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive guises.

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

I hope VW prices it well, because it's a Soft Roader. Also, there isn't a 7 seat option. If VW is positioning this against Endeavour & Fortuner they must offer 4WD as standard. A 18-24 lakh price range would be good for this VW.

If that happens, I will be interested in getting one.

4 WD, 500 NM torque, 240 Bhp power, in Rs. 18-24 Lakhs price range? It will be too sweet a deal. If it happens, VW can sell more than all Fortuner, Endeavour, Q3, A3, A4, C220, C250 combined in India. I dont think above combo in the price range quoted will be doable.

VW needs to price the Tiguan very carefully as there is the Skoda Kodiaq too is coming this year too.

Kodiaq offers more space than the Tiguan and looks more premium than Tiguan.

In Germany Tiguan is more expensive than the Kodiaq, with base price of Kodiaq ( 1.4 L P-125 HP) at 25,490 Euros while the Tiguan is at 26,575 Euros.

For India VW should price the Tiguan much lower than Kodiaq and Skoda Kodiaq to come in a 7 seat configuration only.

I think they will price it against the Hyundai Tucson, 19-25 Lakhs.

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

Went to VW showroom last week to ask about Jetta highline AT and got to know that Jetta in India has been decommissioned (as reported in this forum in multiple threads). The SM went on to say that the Tiguan is due to be launched later this year but at an on road price of approximately 35 Lakhs.

At 35 Lakhs OTR, Tiguan will be a few lakhs more expensive than Tucson, Trailblazer, CR-V, and Rexton and will compete with the likes of Pajero Sport, Koleos, Endeavour, and Fortuner. IMO, VW may do this to leave room for T-Cross, which could slot between Creta/XUV500 and Tucson/Trailblazer.

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

It looks like the Tiguan is made in 2 versions, i.e. short wheel base & Long wheel base.

Length:
SWB: 4,486 mm (176.6 in)
LWB: 4,712 mm (185.5 in)

Which one is coming to India?

re: Volkswagen imports the Tiguan. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27 - 31 lakhs

No way are they going to price it lesser than Tucson. It is definitely going to be more premium than Tucson even if they launch the 5-seater version. I expect the top end to be well over 30L on road

I always felt VW cars have a timeless charm to their design. I love the clean straight lines of all their cars and the Tiguan looks great! Its nice to see a squarish design in all the curves being thrown around these days. Though Skoda does the squarish design job slightly better!

Having said that, looks are subjective. Also everyone seems to be shying away from predicting the pricing for some reason be it OD or Autocar. Wonder why?
