Maruti Suzuki has announced that the Baleno hatchback has crossed the milestone of 1 lakh domestic sales in India. Launched in October 2015, the Baleno has achieved this mark within one year of its launch. It is sold through Maruti's premium dealership chain - NEXA.

The Baleno is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine. Both these engines get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, while a CVT unit is offered with the petrol variant. The automaker is also planning to launch a performance-oriented Baleno RS variant in the near future, which will be powered by a 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine.

In addition to the aforementioned domestic sales, the Baleno is also exported to markets like Japan and Europe. The automaker has cumulatively shipped 33,800 units of the car to the export markets. It is also the first India-manufactured car from Maruti that is being exported to Japan.

This is quite a staggering achievement. Goes to show how much trust the brand has among Indian car buyers.

Good looking, spacious, fuel efficient, drive train options and ASS. A good recipe for success.

While Maruti has a problem of plenty, other manufacturers have only problems in India to contend with barring a Hyundai and couple of others.

Staggering achievement indeed.

Before the Baleno was launched, I used to always wonder where & how Maruti will position it. Was worried it'll just get lost in the crowd. But the price, feature-list and all-roundedness were impressive. I drove our test car and was pleasantly surprised at how it pushed all the hot buttons / met key criteria.

Having a different dealer channel also helped to reduce overlap with the Swift.

Can't wait to test-drive the 1.0L turbo-petrol variant!

Maruti plans to export Baleno to over 100 markets globally.

MSI currently exports the car to France, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Chile, Israel, England, Nepal, Bhutan, Austria and Australia.
Till date around 38,000 units of the model have been dispatched to these destinations

Will also be shipped to countries in Latin America, Middle East and South East Asia.

In following months it (Baleno) will be launched in Caribbean Islands, Uruguay, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Peru, South Africa, Indonesia, Middle East countries like UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia
For India too MS has more variants of Baleno planned. After the Baleno RS , it is rumored to get the SHVS variant which will run on high octane fuel thus gearing up for the BS VI regulations.

Following the official launched on October 26, 2015, the snazzy looking hatchback took less than a year to hit the 100,000 unit sales milestone, and followed it up a scant six months later by driving past the 150,000 mark in 18 months.

The Baleno, which has been averaging sales of a little over 16,000 units for the past three months, has sold a total of 197,660 units till end of May 2017. Given this pace of sales, it can be surmised that the Baleno would have sold an additional 5,500 units early this month, thereby crossing the 200,000 unit landmark.
