Team-BHP - Mercedes GLA 220 d 4MATIC ‘Activity Edition’ launched

Mercedes-Benz has launched the AWD variant of the GLA SUV, named as the GLA 220 d 4MATIC Activity Edition. This is the first time that the GLA has got an AWD setup in India. The GLA 4MATIC marks Mercedes India's 9th product launch this year.

As the name suggests, the GLA Activity Edition gets Mercedes' 4MATIC AWD system along with an off-road package as standard. It is powered by a 2143 cc in-line 4-cylinder engine that is capable of churning out 168 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 7G-Dual-clutch transmission. The GLA AWD has a company claimed 0-100 km/h time of 7.7 seconds.

The automaker has also given some added elements to the SUV's exteriors to differentiate it from the regular models. The GLA 220d 4MATIC gets an Activity Edition badge, black decals on the doors, new 18-inch alloys, and a new Mountain Grey colour option.

Features on offer include an 8-inch Media Display, Smartphone Integration package, keyless start, rain sensing wipers, and Activity Edition floor mats. Occupant safety is taken care of by the presence of ABS, ESP, ASR, hill start assist, 6 airbags, ESP, and Attention Assist.

Mercedes had launched the GLA in India in 2014. It was till now offered with a petrol and a diesel engine. The 1991 cc petrol engine develops 181 BHP @ 5500 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 1200-4000 rpm. Meanwhile, the 2143 cc diesel unit churns out 134 BHP @ 3600-4400 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 1600-3000 rpm. Both these engines are mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
