2017 Maruti Swift Dzire rendering. If the real thing turns out like this, then it's not as ugly as the current generation IMO.

The front will be like this, but the side won't be as boxy as this. This side is a direct pick from current one. New one has a 'better smoothened' side profile.

In my opinion, the current hood droop looks good on a hatchback , but not for sedan as it seems weirdly out of proportion. I wish they would smooth it out on the Dzire while retaining it for swift. I feel it gives a cartoonish-like front look for the sedan

Looks like the lovechild of a Baleno and the current gen DZire.

The Swift's looks/character does not and never will suit the DZire!

It's the Kizashi touch I can see all over the rear, and Baleno on the side. (And New Swift at the front, ofcourse).

Next-gen Swift Dzire VDi may come with an AMT

The next-gen Maruti Swift Dzire is expected to be launched in India next year. The compact sedan has already been spotted testing in the country under heavy camouflage. The automaker hasn't revealed details about the new car's powertrain options yet. However, export data from Zauba records mentions that some engine parts and transmission of the YSD NB (YSD -> codename for the new Swift and NB -> Notchback) have been exported from India to Japan. This export record thus points that the new-gen Swift Dzire VDi will likely come with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

The Dzire is essentially an India-specific model. As a result, it is highly likely that the said components have been exported for testing the Dzire in Japan, ahead of its India launch. The current-gen Dzire too gets an AMT gearbox, which is available only in the top-end ZDi trim.

For the Indian market, the new-gen Swift Dzire is expected to come equipped with an updated 1.2-litre K-series petrol, and the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. The 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine is also expected to be offered as an option.

The only thing which was lacking in Maruti Diesels is the AMT / AT feature.

And finally this happy news. Looking forward for Ciaz Diesel and Vitara Diesel now.

For a car that sells around 200000 units per annum can't MUL have a separate platform or at least a totally reworked body ? I can understand marginal players trying to leverage their hatch platform to minimise costs but why MUL ?

Both the cars will retail through the existing dealers of Maruti Suzuki.

The sports version of Swift will likely come in 2018.
