No longer are they importing or selling the 4x4 and Trailhawk versions apparently.
I guess there is less demand for a 4x4 in this model as people don’t use this car for off-roading as it is a Sub Compact SUV, though there is no significant difference in 4x4 technology between Grand Cherokee and Renegade.

Mostly people prefer a Wrangler, Landcruiser, Pajero or a Grand Cheorkee for off-roading excursions here.

Yes I agree because the prices arent all that frightfully different between these vehicles as they are in India.

If in India however they make the top spec Jeep Renegade here itself and price it fairly, it will gobsmack all these Cretas and Tucsons and so on straight up!

It is a sub compact SUV. But it is a heck of a lot more capable than the above named few, mainly on account of the kit inside and the 4x4 system and technology whose DNA is near identical to those of the Wrangler and Cherokee etc.

I wish they would introduce this lovely little beast here!

I also wish they would do a 'make in India' on the Wrangler Sahara 2 door and 4 door and price it fairly.

That would indeed knock all these 'so called 'capable' and currently successful' 'quasi suv's' and crossovers and existing Jeep type things off their ruddy perch!

Visited the Jeep showroom today. The sales manager mentioned that the prices for Compass are expected to be in line with the current Innova prices. Not sure how true this is. If it is ? Party time.
Ps. They haven't sold a single Jeep vehicle as yet from launch.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

The upcoming Jeep Compass will be a critical model for FCA's fortunes in India, when it is launched later this year. This is because of the Jeep brand being a huge focus of FCA's new product strategy for the Indian market.

Scheduled to enter production at Fiat's Ranjangaon plant soon and chalked for a launch in the third quarter of 2017, the heavily-localised Compass will not only cater to the Indian market but will also be exported to other right-hand drive markets such as the UK, Japan and Australia.

Kevin Flynn, president & MD, Fiat India, also clarified that the Linea and the Punto could be replaced soon if the recent price cut doesn't improve their sales.

Quote:
As for existing models like the Linea and Punto, the Fiat management will take a call on their future if the price mark down does not perk up sales. "We recognise the vehicles are quite late in their life cycles and if the price cuts don't work we will be working fervently on what comes next."

The Jeep Compass is a critical launch for the company as it sets out to improve its volumes in India. "Jeep is used as a reference for the segment and we need to claim that segment back as our own," said Flynn. "We will launch the model in a range of powertrains and also in 4x4 options. There will be several options true to the DNA of brand Jeep," said Flynn. And although tightlipped on whether the Compass will be priced between Rs 18-20 lakh as is the market buzz, he said,"The pricing will be very attractive because local content will be quite high. We're developing new technologies with local suppliers particularly in terms of vehicle weight & mileage. It opens up options for some of the other projects we want to do at Ranjangaon."

FCAI will also look out for other products from the Chrysler line-up. "There are many emerging technologies and broad product platforms in the group and we will see what opportunities that brings us," said Flynn. "Going ahead we will have a range spread across a number of positionings. This is our first step and we expect good volumes from it. But the Jeep brand goes beyond one model. The Jeep Compass is a game changer for us," he said.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Kevin Flynn in a long discussion with Autocar India -

Interesting points about the Jeep Compass-

1. Extremely high levels of localization
2. 2.0 Litre Diesel engine is localized. Petrol option will be available as well.

3. Business case for 'Make in India' due to exports and should help with the pricing.
4. 4WD, automatic transmission etc available, but not standard across the range.

5. Parts warehouse doubled in Ranjangoan to help with service. .
6. MOPAR will be introduced for service and parts.

If Fiat's big bet is Jeep in India, then I think they are doomed! For starters, the compass is touted to be in the 18-20 lakh segment, which clearly means an on road price of 25-30 lakh, at a place where even the Hyundai Tucson is struggling.
And then the only hope rests on The localised Renegade which may launch next year and that probably is their only car that may be at a sub 15 lakh price point.

All this effectively means that Jeep and Fiat have no play in the mass segments in india and thus no volumes to speak of. With no new cars from Fiat being announced, is this all that FCA is planning? Aren't they setting up for failure?

You may just be right about the pricing and demand of the Compass.

It may not be the mass selling product they want it to be if the OTR is in the suggested range.

Good finding there!
Saying that, 17-18 lacs ex showroom will end up at about 23-24 lac on Road.
And 25 lac ex showroom for the top spec will happily hit 30 lac on road Bangalore.
Similar to the Yeti, Tucson and even Innova Crysta's current pricing. And provided the Jeep is fully loaded with TCS and ESP and all the rest of it, that may well be a worthwhile price to pay for a Jeep.
Frankly the Jeep will be of better value overall even at this price, if one is looking for brand as well as off road functionality credentials!

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

The upcoming Compass has been caught on camera while on a test run at night on the streets of Pune by a Thrust Zone spy.

The SUV's all-LED tail lights can be seen.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Over the weekend I was at the FASS for some work on the Linea. The service adviser there mentioned that the Compass will be priced in the range of 25 to 30 lakhs OTR (i guess probably Mumbai). There are around 50 vehicles already out of production line and undergoing extensive road testing, should be launched by April.

Also he mentioned that the Renegade launch could be this year end and OTR at 12 lakhs with high localization.

OT - There was a visit by the TFI members there to discuss on the issue faced by FIAT owners and he was mentioning the same prices to them as well.

Because now, that would be a helluva vehicle to consider for people who want a few frills, decent kit, safety, functionality and a highly capable 4WD system and to own a piece of the Jeep brand.

Shankar, the Renegade won't be launched in India.

The Renegade test mules we see running around are for testing the underpinnings of the all-new "Jeep 526" compact SUV which is supposedly based on the Renegade.

It will be smaller than the Compass (codenamed "Jeep 556") and will have the EcoSport/Creta in it's sights, when launched late next year.

And, the Compass itself won't be launched before June.

Any chance of this Jeep 526 coming with Trail Hawk 4WD trim do you think?
I really wouldnt mind buying a fully functional baby Jeep with all the bells and whistles in it!

Re: Next-gen SsangYong Rexton (Y400) to be sold as a Mahindra SUV in India

Saw these test mules last week on the highway during my visit to Pune.

I am guessing these are Mahindra's since Mahindra has their factory in Chakan

These appeared pretty impressive vehicles in terms of both design and size (there's an Innova to the right of one of these test mules).
