Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Mod Note: Our Compass Report has been taken live at this link (Jeep Compass : Official Review). Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

The all-new 2017 Jeep Compass was unveiled to the world a few days back. (related thread)

Now, a spyshot has emerged which shows the 2017 Compass being tested on Indian soil for the very first time.

Jeep has already announced that the Compass would be it's first made-in-India Jeep which will be assembled locally at Fiat's Ranjangaon plant. It will come with a Fiat-sourced 2.0L Multijet II diesel engine, capable of producing 172BHP of power.

When launched, the Compass is expected to take on the Hyundai Tucson and the Honda CR-V in the Rs 20 lacs+ price segment.

re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Pricing around 18-25 lakhs will be sensible and will certainly get some attention, but its FIAT, looking at the history I don't think we can expect Compass to be launched anytime soon. I really hope they launch Compass and Renegade in India.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Just thought I'll clarify since there's a lot of confusion about the Compass & Renegade.

The Renegade is a smaller SUV that'll most likely be placed in the 10 - 15L bracket (unless Fiat does a Grand Cherokee-style shocker). Think Hyundai Creta price levels or below. It's based on the Fiat 500X, which itself is based on the Grande Punto's platform (obviously reworked).

The Compass, on the other hand, is a Hyundai Tucson - Honda CR-V competitor. If Fiat does a Grand Cherokee blunder, it could end up costing over 30 lakhs.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Whichever FCA decides to launch, C Segment, D Segment SUV, They better test thoroughly and get the niggles out before the launch and not follow the usual method of launching and fixing niggles which is seen of late in the 10-25 lakhs segment.

Compass looks pretty good to compete against the CR-V, Tuscon. If they do pricing blunder, they wont sell.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

I most certainly hope that this Jeep Compass, the 2017 model, is a significant improvement over the 2016 model. I had a 2016 Jeep Compass as a rental car in the USA recently, in Latitude trim (which is the one-below-top-end trim).

The steering had no feel to it, but was artificially weighted. And the weight was constant lock to lock, and whatever the speed. Turning the steering wheel felt like I was stirring a big pot of khichdi after it had become cold and too thick.
The perceived quality of the interiors was so bad, it made the 1st gen Figo feel luxurious and plush in comparison. Buttons and controls were all "heavy" to use (meaning, they required double the effort when compared to other cars) and yet, they felt flimsy and did not inspire the confidence that they would last 100K miles.
The ICE was 10 years old.
It took a while for me to find a comfortable driving position. Once there, visibility was poor, so placing the front was pure guess work.

On the plus side, it was decently spacious for its compact size. Ride and handling was acceptable, and the drivetrain (engine+gearbox) was pretty good.

For the first time, I was glad to be rid of the car when I returned it and came home.

It definitely will be. The 2016 model you drove is a decade-old design, and the platform it's based on is even older. The Jeep Compass is woefully outdated and has universally negative reviews online.

The 2017 is an all-new generation.

I would say that is an ambitious number if Renegade comes with the same specs that of the cars that are sold in other countries. Here in the UAE the starting price for a 4x2 is around AED 85,000 to 90,000 & the top spec 4x4 Limited costs around AED 120,000 to 125,000. If you convert this straight into INR it would be starting from 16 lakhs to 22 lakhs with zero tax. Now inflate this by adding relevant % of tax amount and speculate the price range.

The 4x4 Limited Trailhawk edition comes loaded with following options:

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

FCA's b-suv to follow (presumably in 2018) the 2017 locally-made new Compass/c-suv will NOT be the Renegade: it may resemble it in style though. The Renagde has all-independent suspension and 5-star crash safety and very high torsional stiffness etc making it impossible to price below say the Creta. The b-suv will, instead, be a rhd emerging-markets special, a close sibling of the updated (lightened, stretched and strengthened) Palio 'platform' with the architecture of or very-similar-to the Brazilian 'new Punto' launching there in early-2017.

AFAIK.

I got opportunity to talk to an FCA employee working in design team. As per him they are working on various cost cutting options to make the Compass cost less than 20L.

Does this mean OTR or Ex Showroom Price?

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Jeep Compass India launch in mid-2017 ( August ?).

India-spec Jeep Compass to come with a 2.0 diesel and a 1.4 Multiair petrol; high localisation to price SUV around Rs 18-25 lakh

Quote:
The engine that Jeep is banking on for India is Fiat's peppy 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel that makes 170hp. Both automatic and manual gearboxes will be available, and Fiat will also provide the petrol motor, an all-new 1.4 Multiair that's likely to put out in the region of 140hp.
Jeep will differentiate itself from the crowd by retaining off-road skills that are so central to its brand. Top-of-the-line versions will come with a dedicated four-wheel-drive system, and Jeep's selec-terrain system that optimises the SUV for conditions like snow, sand/mud and rocks will be part of the spec too. More expensive versions will get a differential locking system that works by braking individual wheels. Jeep, however, will also offer a two-wheel-drive or front-wheel-drive version, so as to allow for a good spread.

Just debuting at the LA Auto Show, Jeep Compass for the US will be only one engine on offer - 2.4-liter four-cylinder delivering 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.

there are three different transmissions depending on specification. They include a six-speed manual in the 4x2 and 4x4 versions, a six-speed auto ‘box for front-wheel drive models and a nine-speed auto for 4x4 models. Whichever gearbox is selected, 100 per cent of the torque can be sent to an individual wheel thanks to Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low.

Jeep Compass: RHD models to be produced only in India

Jeep has confirmed that the Compass SUV will be launched in India in mid-2017. It will be locally manufactured at FCA's Ranjangaon facility, which will be one of the four global manufacturing bases for the Compass. The Ranjangaon plant will also be the only facility to produce RHD models, and will thus be catering to various RHD markets.
