Are Fog lights banned?

Recently i had a trip to Munnar. Before going there, I thought i will fit yellow fog lights to my Santro. But when I approached the dealer, he said that yellow fog lights are banned in india. Is there any truth in this ? Anyway he had only white, transparant fog lights in stock.

IS there any truth in this ?

Yes, he is correct. They're banned. And if you ask me, I've found the white ones to be adequate. But if you don't find them classy enough, that's another thing.

I don't find any reasonto ban the fog-lamps! They are low-beamed, short-distance lights. Yellow fog-lamps are more effective than white or any other color, no? Then why ban them? I guess, since dealer didn't have those, he simply played a trick on you.

If they were banned, the vehicle manufacturers would be the first to stop providing them on the vehicles. And that is not the case.

Does any manufacturer give yellow fogs as standard? For the ones that I can remember, its only white. And maybe its the coloured ones that are banned.

As far as i can remember i haven't seen one car manufacture giving yellow fog lamps

So i think they must be banned. I have white ones on my car and they are good in fogy weather like normal yellow ones
Fog lamps are waisa not allowed to be turned without fog

Yellow fog lamps are really banned.... the ones you find them fixed are those fitted earlier .... one can get only white fog lamps...
your dealer is true .... and not banned because he ran out of stock and all...
the reason for ban being they can cause glare than ordinary ones and very being used in city conditions also....
people also put small blue diodes in their registration plate borders these are banned also ... there are so many rules still most motorists aren't aware ...

swift gets only white fog lamps....

Santro (which model ???) came fitted with yellow fog lamps from factory back in 1999-2000.

In hilly regions most of the government public transport buses do have one or two yellow lamps which I assume are doing duty as fog lamps.

when i got fogs fitted on my corsa sail a few months ago, the guy told me that clear lamps as fogs are legal.anyway i wouldnt have opted for the yellow one(thats a different story) coz i think they spoil the way the car looks.my opinion!

it is not because of the brightness but because you are not allowed to put lights above the bodyline of the car exept mla's and ministers etc.
