re: 0.75% discount for those who buy fuel using cards EDIT: Slashed to 0.25%!

I am using Citi Bank Indian Oil Credit Card and at Indian Oil COCO outlets whenever I have swiped card I have received the incentive. Probably using your card at COCO will get you the incentive quickly.

re: 0.75% discount for those who buy fuel using cards EDIT: Slashed to 0.25%!

I used my HDFC Platinum Credit Card to refuel from a Shell outlet.
I basically recharge the Shell Card with my Credit Card and then swipe my Shell Card for payments. So here is the sequence of events:

1. Credit Card swiped for 3000/- . Amount seen in statement = 3086/-
2. Cash Back received is 75/- This translates to 2.5%. I do not know HOW?
3. Shell Card loaded with 3000/-.
4. Shell Card swiped for 2720/-.
5. Cask Back received is 13.6/- This translates to 0.5%.

So, in total Rs 88.6/- was returned but Rs 86/- was charged as surcharge. Overall gain of 2 rupees and 60 paise !

However, I am not sure what has changed that HDFC started giving me such a cash back. Maybe next time, I should include PayTm somewhere in the transaction and get even more benefits. (Greedy Me)

You are absolutely right with your observation.
The govt launched this scheme to project a very customer centric view in front of the media and basically it was good pr for them. Now comes the catch to it for this scheme banks were instructed to install new edc terminals meant solely for 2000/- rs swipes in lieu of cash, eod settlements going to respective merchant accounts next day via neft.

What happened however was that all swipes made and all batches settled funds werent transfered to respective accounts in tottality. in some cases there were batch mismatches in total settlement. This led to most dealers not all whoever faced issues with getting the amounts credited to them they stopped swiping on the machines and refused customers since the money they were handing out wasnt coming back.

Wouldnt know about all dealers however in my case i operated the machine for 6 days and in total, i am still awaiting the amount for the entire 6 days! The banks have goofed up big time during that period and getting our working capital stuck is a major hindrance for any merchant. Hope this clears your doubt

I have been getting the discount back in my credit card, for 3000 bucks you get 22.50 back, though not huge but still a nice gesture.

I am using ICICI Bank credit card and am receiving the 0.75% credit for all transactions even if it is below Rs.2,000/-. The refund probably depends on the servicing bank.

cashback you got from bank is basically fuel surcharge reversal. not actual cash back. why the difference between charged and reversed?
because service tax@15% on fuel surcharge is not reversible as per HDFC.
3000 X 2.5%= 75 fuel surcharge
ST @15% on surcharge of 75= 11.25
Total charged is 3000+75+11= 3086. reversed is only 75.
You can directly swipe that card instead of loading on to shell card.

Is it? I was not aware of this but as such other than Shell rest two are anyways in negligible nos.

3000 X 2.5%= 75 fuel surcharge
I am using a Stan Chart Titanium Cash Back Card that provides for reversal of 2.5% surcharge AND Service taxes charged as well. Verified from statements that BOTH are reversed.

Ser Tax is NOT reversed in case of SBI cards (using a VISA Elite)

Have been receiving cashback of the .75% discount (presumed from the petty amounts of Rs 5.XX or so Credits recd a few days after the actual transactions of Rs 7XX (petrol in the Nano in Delhi)

re: 0.75% discount for those who buy fuel using cards EDIT: Slashed to 0.25%!

HDFC has changed the fuel surcharge reversal. I have a salary account and a platinum credit card. Since december, I noticed that the fuel surchage has not been reversed on my account. Raised a complaint, I have been told that fuel surcharge is only reversed for swipes on HDFC EDC's and the amount needs to be above Rs 400

re: 0.75% discount for those who buy fuel using cards EDIT: Slashed to 0.25%!

I had filled up from 2 different pumps at Kochi and Alleppey using my SBI Debit card for INR 1000 each last week, and today I got two separate credits of INR 7.5 each in my account.

And there were no other surcharges that was deducted either.

Don't recall the oil company, but it was either IOC or BP.

I have faced no issues with my ICICI debit card so far and it has worked well from the first day. The refills have been done at different places in Karnataka.
