On a side note to run 1 lakh Kms per year in a Bolero would be a surefire way to ruin your back.
May be a typo.. he meant 1.2L.

It's 12 lakh kilometres and not 1.2 lakh km.

That was a Camper with a DI engine.

It was used for daily newspaper transport, with a daily run of 400 km.

Yeah, with leaf springs all around, it would have caused much pain in the back. But we had two drivers working on alternate days.

My vehicle was not alone with that sort of mileage. Every other newspaper transport vehicle does about the same. I had seen many DI engined Commanders doing 6 lakh plus km. With proper maintenance 6 to 7 lakh km without an engine overhaul is not that difficult. My vehicle used to run mostly on national highway which might have contributed to the high mileage.

The much criticized rear in both these pics are different. Is one for fleet operators and the other for private owners?

This one for fleet :

The invoice is a fake.

Look carefully at the TIN number - much bolder than the rest of the paper. Also, the whole invoice has been billed on a quotation paper (as is evident from the clauses printed below).

Also, check out the numbers "printed" on the number-plate sections of the car. A clear Photoshop job.

Someone shared the Facebook link with me about this earlier today. I checked all the pics carefully and deduced that it was a con job.

I have tweeted the same to Anand Mahindra, Mahindra Customer Care & Mahindra & Mahindra's PR department.

Someone needs to inform Autocar India to take this news item down.

Facts we knows:
1) There is a Mahindra showroom in Trichy called Shiva Automobiles.
2) The address in the invoice shows Trichy. The Seal from RTO is also Trichy.
3) But Trichy is TN45. TN 47 is Karur.

It is very clear that Registration plate is a con job. But invoice can be real/fake. Autocar might have just taken the easiest available pic of TUV300 from net and put it out there with the scoop. In the race to be the first with the story, its shoddy work from Autocar as usual.

re: The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh

Found these images on TUV300 facebook page. There are couple of more images showing customer's delivery.

Looking from the images, he got bumpers repainted white after delivery. I think it may be genuine as I am not sure why he would go to the extent of faking a delivery. I still think the number plate was photoshopped.

Seems like it was indeed a legit purchase. I stand corrected, in that case.

Here's what Anand Mahindra has replied back to me on Twitter:

Mahindra TUV300 Plus 9-seat P4 variant to cost Rs. 9.46 lakh

Mahindra is yet to announce the official pricing of the TUV300 Plus. However, a leaked invoice from a dealer in Tamil Nadu suggests that the base P4 variant (9-seater) of the upcoming SUV will be priced at Rs. 9.46 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh-tuv300-plus-p4-price.jpg

The TUV300 Plus has been spied on multiple occasions in the recent past. Leaked images have indicated that the front-end styling will be identical to the sub-4 meter TUV300. Beyond the C-pillar, the overall design has been slightly tweaked. It gets larger wraparound tail lamps and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Lower variants are likely to be offered with steel wheels and black ORVMs and bumpers.

The TUV300 Plus shares its interiors with the sub-4 meter version. Moreover, it will be offered with different seating configurations. The base variant is likely to be offered with side-facing third row seats.

Under the bonnet, the TUV300 Plus is believed to be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that makes around 120 BHP. It will be paired with la 6-speed manual transmission.

This is exactly how Mahindra works. Make customers as test dummies and then begins the endless visits to the service center.

Here's what Anand Mahindra has replied back to me on Twitter:
Has this been done earlier?! I find it incredulous that Mahindra would do such a thing!

Are they that unsure about this product: 1) cost benefit analysis, and/or 2) how properly it is put together, that they want on-the-ground feedback before considering launching this product?

I'd imagine a manufacturer would want an all-out strategy on a new product, not this. Sure, Tesla did something similar with the Model 3 by handing the first few cars off the assembly line to employees but I doubt that logic is applicable here.

here is a detailed description of TUV300 PLUS. Couldn't understand most of it though because it is in regional language.

ARAI document reveals Mahindra TUV300 Plus specs

More details about the TUV300 Plus P4 have been leaked through an ARAI document.

The Mahindra TUV300 Plus. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 9.70 lakh-mahindratuv300plusaraicertificate.jpg

The TUV300 Plus is essentially a longer version of the sub-4 meter TUV300. According to ARAI figures, the vehicle measures 4,398 mm in overall length, 1,815 mm in width and 1,837 mm in height. This means, the TUV300 Plus is longer than the standard model by 403 mm, but its overall width is lesser by 20 mm. The Plus is also lower than the regular car by 2 mm. However, both vehicles share the same wheelbase (2,680 mm). Moreover, the TUV300 Plus weighs 2,430 kg (gross weight) which makes it 205 kg heavier.

Under the bonnet, the TUV300 Plus is powered by a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder mHawk120 diesel engine that develops 118 BHP @ 4,000 rpm. The document does not mention torque figure of the engine. According to media reports, it is believed to be producing around 280 Nm of torque and is expected to be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The base P4 variant of the TUV300 comes in a 9-seat configuration with side-facing third row seats. While Mahindra is yet to officially announce the price of the vehicle, a leaked invoice has indicated that prices are likely to start at Rs. 9.46 lakh (ex-showroom).

At least, in this case, the customer knows that they are getting a product that isn't completely tested (I hope they are aware of this) and are being testers aka users of beta version software. That would be far better than dumping the product into the market and then sorting out the issues. In this case the guinea pigs do know (Once again I am hoping that is the case) that they are part of an experiment and willing to expose themselves.
