An extended Mahindra TUV300 (unconfirmed name - TUV 500) spied testing with a full camouflage wrap. It is rumored to be an elongated version of the present day Tank. The test mule seems much boxier but could offer much more legroom. The styling and design elements are same as the TUV300, with the only difference being an extended rear overhang. It could be offered with the front facing third row seats, instead of jump seats found in its smaller sibling – the TUV300.





The TUV500 is likely to be powered by mHawk 100 diesel engine from the TUV300, which produces 100 hp and 240 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT could be the transmission options offered.

Does Mahindra even need this? Yes, if they are replacing the Xylo with it, which in my opinion looks better than this boxy design. The TUV500 may look more proportionate than the 300 but too many vertical design cues make it look a bit narrower than it actually is. Mahindra must ditch the Jeep-like front grille and put some horizontal styling touches to make this one look wider.

I don't think Mahindra would need an extended version of TUV300. Its too boxy if you would ask me.
They already have Xylo in place for third row front facing seat vehicle. Actually the product line of Mahindra is getting too confusing if they will launch TUV500. The customer cannot differentiate between models wisely, hence striking the sales chart. Why investing in a model (in terms of both money & time) which could be just a mediocre product just like they did with Nuvosport.

I suspect Mahindra may have a gap to fill with this TUV 500. Sooner or later Xylo and Nuvosport will go out of production due to their dwindling sales and then they will have a new 7 seater MPV coming up sometime next year. So the TUV 500 may bridge that gap by offering a 7 seater version under 8-9 lakhs whereas the MPV could start around 10-12 lakhs.

Does the industry really need it? I don't think so. You have decent value offerings like the Ertiga which offer better comfort level and refinement than the TUV series. It may just tap in to the rural markets where an off roader sort of requirement persists.

I believe Xylo will be discontinued very soon, as:
1. It didn't receive any major facelift after the launch of Imperio and even the nuvosport which is based on Xylo.
2. TUV 300 is doing much better in comparison to Nuvosport, and it might be perceived that people will like it's longer version as well.
3. A new MPV has been spotted doing rounds which might be launched in the Q2 of 2017.
4. It hasn't pickup sales even after the crystal pricing, the wheel upgrade for D varients, introduction of mHawk, better suspension and safety on offer, same platform as that of the new scorpio and some seriously good discounts on offer. I got mine for ₹9.99L (H4 ABS).

So we can assume that in 2017 M&M will launch:
1. The TUV 500 which will be categorized as an SUV for sure and not a MPV, so technically it's not the successor to Xylo.
2. An all new MPV to replace the Xylo which probably will not be named Xylo but one can't be sure as management at M&M IMHO is in love with the Xylo which is a product of 7 years of rigorous R&D under the project named Ingenio, and that I think is the reason why they kept putting so much effort in Xylo, with upgrades after upgrades, trying to put life into it, but it all seems to have failed. Where Xylo will be discontinued, the Nuvosport might stay into production for a couple of more years I believe.

Now TUV 300 is based on new Scorpio chassis. If TUV 300 is elongated, what you get is a Scorpio with smaller engine and lower price.

This might also draw customers who do not like the aggressive/butch looks of Scorpio.

I wonder if the wheel base is also extending or just extension to the rear over hangs in which case it would look terrible and the ride in the last row will be bouncy like a state transport bus last row.

I hope they straighten out the doors, the current slant-ish arrangement takes many by surprise, especially after they end up hitting the door-corner on their face..

Exactly my thoughts!! Why Mahindra WHY?
Please understand that today's consumer is better informed and clearly the shift is towards a grounds up well engineered and designed product.
Your cut, copy, paste era is over!!
It will be much better to take Xylo as a base template, give it a good styling, good interiors, reduce weight, improve handling, provide flexible seating options and price it sensibly.
Cash on the brand name by evolving the product rather than launching new ones frequently with whacky mod jobs. Once again .

Here's what Mahindra should do :
Axe everything except for Thar, Scorpio and XUV500.

Make Thar as a nostalgic product, make the interior better, market it more. Kinda like Royal Enfield way. It will succeed, no doubt. The only grip in Thar is that interior!

Price Scorpio a little less and take it head on to the likes of overgrown hatchbacks like Ecosport and brezza. Make it more dynamically polished.

In front of duster, the Scorpio would rather roll over and pretend to be dead than talk about ride and handling.

XUV should be made as a proper flagship. Incorporate everything they've learnt from Ssangyong and Pininfarina and make the product the absolute best in class.

I mean, how hard is that to do? Mahindra is clearly very very frustrated and confused.

Well said! When I drove the TUV300, I just thought how it would murder the Scorpio if it had a bigger engine. The TUV300 is a far newer product than the Scorpio and it shows. The only advantage that the Scorpio has is its brand (has quite a following) & bigger exterior size (interiors aren't as spacious as the size outside would have you believe).

Mahindra vehicles headed up towards North. The convoy included a Bolero, a TUV300, a TUV500 and a XUV500. All except the Bolero had TN test plates which means this new long wheelbase 7-seater TUV could be made at their Chennai facility.

As visible in images here, the TUV500 gets a longer wheelbase along with increased passenger leg space. The last row of seats will be forward facing like most other 7-seaters. It might also come powered by a bigger 2.2-litre mHawk engine, the same seen on the Scorpio and the XUV. Mahindra will position it just under the Scorpio which means a starting price of around Rs 8-9 lakh.

If you observe closely TUV500 has a bonnet scoop which is a clear give away that 2.2 M-Hawk engine is under the hood. So it will be priced above the TUV300 at a premium with three forward facing rows and all the bells and whistles

I beg to differ because the scoop does not seem to have any air-inlet, if we are presuming that it would be similar to Scorpio.
Another observations is that similar scoops can be seen on both doors & quarter panel also, presumably these are data recorders to record vibrations, adulation's, etc. I, of-course stand to be corrected.
