Rumour: Maruti Dzire Tour to be discontinued by March 2017

Rumour: Maruti Dzire Tour to be discontinued by March 2017

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly planning to discontinue the Dzire Tour sedan by March 2017. The automaker is currently working on the next-gen Dzire, which is expected to be launched in India sometime next year.

When Maruti launched the current-gen Dzire in 2012, it renamed the previous-gen model as the Dzire Tour, and started selling it exclusively to fleet operators. The Dzire Tour, being a full size sedan, managed to hold its ground in the taxi business and brought in satisfactory sales numbers for the company. Maruti currently sells around 3,000 units of the Dzire Tour every month. However, with the new-gen model coming in the near future, the Dzire Tour has now become a bit too outdated to be on sale. This is the chief reason behind Maruti planning to pull the plug on this fleet-exclusive sedan.

Speculations also suggest that Maruti might launch a stripped down version of the current-gen model under the Dzire Tour name, once the new-gen model is launched. This will help the automaker to continue to have a dedicated contender in the growing taxi fleet business.

Re: The old Dzire is back, named 'DZire Tour'!

I went to Sai service Lower Parel Mumbai with a friend who wanted to book a car. On casually asking about Dzire Tour, we were told that it will be discontinued anytime from now.

It currently sells for 7.00 lacs OTR Mumbai as per sales guy.

The current-gen DZire neither has cabin space nor boot space (obviously) comparable to the Etios and Verito (cab favorites), so it won't be first choice for either city taxis or airport cab fleets. Might as well kill off the Tour sub-brand altogether, or the cab market will do it for them.

I think airport cabs like Meru and others will shun the current gen Dzire completely since it's very risky for the taxi to land up at the customer's door only to find out that the car cannot accommodate the required luggage. But cabs plying for ola and uber may continue buying the dzire since even now they are prevalent. Losing only the airport fleet sales may not be such a big loss for Maruti since I'm guessing their taxi sales are more from the ola / über sector.

Current-gen Maruti Dzire spotted with Dzire Tour badges

Maruti Suzuki will be introducing the new-gen Dzire in India in the next few months. We had earlier reported that once the new model is launched, Maruti might discontinue the current Dzire Tour and replace it with the current-gen Dzire. A new spy shot has now surfaced on the Internet, showing the current model with the Dzire Tour badges, thus cementing the earlier reports.

The new Dzire Tour will likely continue to be offered with the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines that currently power the regular Dzire. Additionally, a company fitted CNG kit might also be offered as an option for taxi fleet operators.

What is the boot space of the current generation DZire?

I am afraid it won't be able to compete with the likes of Xcent (407 ltr) and Zest (390 ?ltrs) in the competitive CS taxi segment.

Indeed the smallest even when you look at it. Anyway, this may not be the best when it comes to Airport Pick/Drops and best it can do is in the App Based Taxi market which we anyway see.

The 2017 DZire Tour, spied inside out.

The new version, which we have spotted again, will feature longer wheelbase than the outgoing Tour model and could offer the occupants better comfort. The Indo-Japanese automaker will reduce the luggage capacity at the back as more than 120 litres of bootspace will be shaved off in the new Swift Dzire Tour 2017 due to its sub-four metre length. However, the decrease in boot capacity comes at an advantage as it might be priced lower than the outgoing model due to the cramped overall length.

The existing Dzire is sold with the proven and fuel-efficient 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that makes 75 bhp of maximum power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 rpm. For the new 2017 Swift Dzire Tour, it will be accompanied by the 1.2-litre K-series petrol motor that develops 86 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It will likely be sold with a CNG kit as well.

The features will still be entry-level though as the 2017 Dzire Tour will be based on the entry-level LXi (o) trim of the standard model as you can seen in the interior shots. The exterior is basic too with black grille and fog lamp area but the hideous black treatment at the front and rear of the outgoing model appears to have gone. The headlamps are not much angular as it is based on the second-gen regular Dzire. The interior has black and beige theme with seats covered in beige while devoid of an audio system.

I don't understand - how much extra would it cost Maruti to print actual logos on faux-metal plastic on the boot? Rs 50? Rs 100? Is that saving really worth having such cheap printed-paper logos?
