re: SsangYong Rexton (Y400) to be sold as Mahindra Alturas G4 in India

I just sold my XUV 500 W10 and in the market for a new automatic SUV. I like the Endeavour but really like what I have seen of the XUV 700. Any suggestion ? Does anyone have any definitive launch dates for the XUV 700. I am ok to wait until end of the year for it to release.

re: SsangYong Rexton (Y400) to be sold as Mahindra Alturas G4 in India

I loved the styling of the Ssangyong Rexton, I feel Mahindra made a mistake of Mahindra-ing this brand, they should have kept their flagship product named Ssangyong.

The styling of this is too modern and a bit too Mahindra.. I loved the retro, Merc-looking front end of the first gen Rexton, it had some quirky charm to it.

Hopefully, the safety features will work in this one. For those with large families this should be an instant hit as Mahindra has terrific recall as far as large SUV's go.

Here is why I would be wary of spending anything more than 1.5 Mn INR on a Mahindra: -

1. Resale - Going by the current crop of Rextons, this too will depreciate much quicker compared to the Endeavour/Fortuner, and I dare say, even the MUX.

2. Technical know-how - There have been multiple instances of mechanics at Mahindra ASCs not knowing how to fix the Rexton simply because there haven't been enough trainings given to them.

3. Spare part pricing and availability - The Endeavour is an internationally well accepted vehicle which sells a lot while the Rexton is nowhere near it. Hence spare parts will not only be expensive but also will take longer to source, even for a dealership because they will not stock a lot of parts. I have seen Rextons waiting for weeks for parts to arrive.

4. Looks - While this is a personal choice, I feel the Rexton looks a lot like a typical Korean vehicle (it is Korean), which isn't to my taste.

Thanks Devdath. I agree to most of your points. My experience with Mahindra when I had my XUV for the last 3 years has been excellent. I am just hpoing that with XUV 700 being Mahindras most expensive vehicle they will make arrangements to keep sufficient spares.

The other biggest point is that with my budget arounf 34 lacs all I can afford is the based 2.2 trend model of the Endevour while at the same price I may get all the bells and whistles on the Rexton G4

It is the volumes the XUV sold in, which ensured a steady supply of spares and technical know-how.

At 34 lac, it is possible to get the 2.2 Titanium as well, with some smart decisions.

Apologies for asking this again but does anyone know for sure when the XUV 700 will launch. I am ok to wait till the end of this year, but if it is going to be any further I might book the Endeavour

ACI has some inside information and seem to get preferential treatment from Mahindra's as seen in the review of Marazzo.

Looks like the launch is postponed to late October, to avoid clashes with other launches on 9th October.

re: SsangYong Rexton (Y400) to be sold as Mahindra Alturas G4 in India

This SUV seems awesome. It won the 4x4 car of the year award from the 4x4 magazine, so it has serious off-road chops. Ride quality seems a bit of a let down though, based on reviews. And its loaded with luxury features, including stuff like memory seats, multi-zone air conditioning, leather seats, 9.2 inch screen etc. It'll be worth a price close to the Endeavor and Fortuner (though way more than I can afford!).
