Media reports suggest that Mahindra will reveal the 2nd-gen SsangYong Rexton at the 2018 Auto Expo. The new Rexton will be branded as a Mahindra and could feature minor cosmetic changes. It is expected to be launched later this year.



The G4 Rexton was officially revealed back in March 2017. It is based around a ladder-frame chassis and measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,800 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,864 mm. In terms of its dimensions, the Rexton will be identical to the international model.

Mahindra is likely to give the Rexton a new grille and new alloy wheels. The interiors too could feature minor tweaks. As far as equipment and features are concerned, the global model gets projector headlamps, 360-degree camera, 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in addition to a 7.0-inch LCD instrument panel, cooled seats wrapped in Nappa leather and a smart tail gate. It would be interesting to see which of these features make it onto the India-spec Rexton.

Mechanically, the Mahindra Rexton will be identical to its global counterpart. While the Rexton is offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines in some markets, the India-spec Rexton will likely get the 2.2-litre diesel unit paired to a 7-speed automatic gearbox. This engine delivers a peak output of 184 BHP and 420 Nm of torque.

Even rear looks like S cross somewhat. What's up with manufacturers? Even facelifted i20 bears resemblance to S cross wrt tail lamps.

Some might mistake it for a Land Cruiser Prado though.

This car has the looks of the S-Cross along with the interiors of the Ford Endeavour. Well, I am not complaining if they can price this product sensibly. The side profile of the car is very VW/Skoda/Audi like and I am really digging those interiors.

Next gen Rexton SUV for the global market, and nicknamed Mahindra XUV700, has now been spied undisguised in India by Mr Husain. To be positioned above XUV500 segment, XUV700 will be a challenger to Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. Built on an advanced Quad-Frame platform using 63 percent high-strength steel and 1.5 Gpa giga-steel results in structural strength and low body weight.

The full size premium SUV has 3 rows, and seats 7, and going by its platform sharing advantage, could undercut its rivals by a few lakhs. Dimensions – XUV700 will measure 4.85 m in length, 1.92 m in width, and 1.8 m in height. At 2865 mm, its wheelbase exceeds that of Fortuner by 120 mm to reveal an even more spacious interior.

Hmm, not bad at all. Road presence is comparable and as good as (if not better) than the likes of Fortuner and Endy. But, let’s see if it’ll match in quality, reliability and driving pleasure. Not to mention the off road capability of others. Good effort nonetheless. It all comes down to pricing.

Front is expected to be like this which is fairly handsome and clean (compared to XUV 500). Though I really can’t stand that weird claw-mark type grille.

This is the Ssangyong Rexton RX series. I am not sure if this would be the new XUV or this will come as a replacement for Rexton.

Can't tell the road presence by this picture. Nice proportions, but the bottom half of the rear end looks a little overdone. The wheels look a lot like the Nexon's alloys.

New Rexton was showcased in Autoexpo. In flesh, it was huge and had great road presence. It was not looking like generally overdone Mahindra, rightly proportioned and decent, unlike any Mahindra so far...
