2017 Range Rover Evoque gets 2.0L petrol engine in India; Launched @ 53.20 lakh

Land Rover has launched a petrol derivative of the Range Rover Evoque in India at Rs. 53.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The petrol engine will be offered only in the SE trim. The Evoque is now available in India with two engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel.

The newly introduced 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine in the Evoque develops 237 BHP and 340 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. With the aforementioned powertrain, the Evoque petrol can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while its top speed is 217 km/h.

The 2017 Range Rover Evoque was launched in India last month. It was initially available only with a 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine, which is offered with all 5 trim levels - Pure, SE, SE Dynamic, HSE and HSE Dynamic. It develops 177 BHP and 430 Nm of torque, while being mated to a 9-speed gearbox.

Overpriced, not much cheaper than the diesel, yet should be an interesting drive. That's a very healthy output from a 2.0 turbo-petrol - in terms of BHP & torque, both.

IIRC, this is a Ford EcoBoost engine.

Yep this is an ecoboost like all other JLR petrols and one of the older ones at that. However 237 HP from a 2 liter these days is just about par for the course when newer gen 2L engines are generating 375 HP (AMG A45) and 367HP (S60 Polestar). Of course its a given that his is a cheaper mainstream and not a high performance engine.

Can't really compare it to the AMGs of the world. Take a look at more mainstream cars.

BMW makes 184 BHP, but merely 270 Nm torque from its 2.0L turbo-petrol.

Mercedes makes 181 BHP, and 300 Nm torque from its 2.0L turbo-petrol.

Audi is the only manufacturer which matches it in terms of torque with the 2.0L TFSI they offered in India, although it had lesser horsepower.

The same engine makes 252bhp and 350nm (I think) with a slightly higher tune, like on the 330i GT.

True! The indian scene is pretty bad. However you do have the option of buying the S60 T6 with a twincharged 2L that outputs 304HP for a whole 10 lacs less. However it is an aberration compared to everything else.

Similarly, the Mercedes 2 l petrol makes 252 BHP and 370 NM in the GLC 300. In fact, this is very similar in price and power to the new GLC 300, X3 28i and also the effective price at whichever the Discovery Sport Petrol (which has very similar output figures) - but the 0-100 time is rather strangely much slower than the difference in specs suggests.

The Si4 petrol engine is actually a relaunch. Remember the time the Evoque was launched as a 3 door coupe? It had the same engine.

And they have already reduced prices on other Petrol variants they launched recently. Evoque may be different though
