thats what hyundai expects. A head turner for their cars. Very good marketing strategy.

Looks and comfort can come later. How good are these cars w.r.t reliability and chase ?

I think US police cars are rugged and powerful (Mostly Ford Crown Victoria).

Well the Accent CRDi is a good chaser. It's performance is quite good. It'll be reliable if maintained properly as with all diesel engines.

Head Turner, alright. The white accent looks pretty cool with the blue stripes & POLICE painted boldly on the sides with the siren & lights on the top. it is equipped with a digital camera, a speed gun & some handcuffs.

If it was just white it would not have. This one is white and blue and the US type lights on top also give it some character.

BTW, latest update on the Accents :
Many are still kept parked in police stations as the department does not seem to have enough personnel to drive them (however, I see atleast 2-3 on my way to work, parked at strategic signals/locations). Plus some SIs avoid using them as they find their official bikes more easier in Chennai traffic conditions.

@shrivz, looks like you spoke a little early. It seems 2 are already damaged. One had a tree fall on it, while the other has the front damaged (not sure how it happened).

they're CRDi's...they look pretty cool, but it's a bit weird seeing a fat indian cop driving one.

Slipstream, you are right to an extent. Sub inspectors have been given the accent.. while the ones above them ( not sure how the ranks go ) will be given, Elantras and Embera.

Someone was also telling that there are a couple of Tucsons waiting to be given too .. Not sure how authentic this info is.

The new Chennai police cars look quite spiffy, i might add!.I do have pics i have taken but i don't know how to post them, or if i wil be allowed to post since i'm a new member!.Compared to other indian cities with thier shabby police vans , the Chennai police cars do look impressive!!.

Nope. PCs would have to be content with their fieros, which itself is more than what they need.

Perhaps our tuners should now do their bit and mod the police cars?
