Hmm, that is interesting. Donating cars to the public just to get revenue from servicing and repairing :-). By the way, could you please share the actual cost of servicing and repairing a Mahindra jeep for a year, compared to the same cost for a hyundai accent. (I guess you commented on the cost of running of Mahindra because you know the figures)

Police cars in India

I am a massive fan of foreign police cars especially the American ones.
It is really surprising that most Indian states still use the Mahindra Jeep and Tata Sumo as the main police vehicle.
These vehicles would be a nightmare to catch criminals on the run.

In Goa the main Police vehciles used are
1) Tata Sumo's (majority of the police fleet)
2) Esteem (about 2 vehicles used as Highway interceptors, with video survellance equipment)
3) Toyota Qualis (Same as the Esteem used to catch travelers overtaking and over speeding)

IMO the Fiat Palio Diesel would make a perfect Police car.
It has great fuel efficiency, lots of interior space and is tough to handle the pit maneuvers.
The Tata Marina would make a good K-9 police vehicle (dog squad)

Would be great to have the cars equipped with video cameras, red & blue sirens and police equipped with Motorola walky talkies.

Below is a pic of the TN Hyundai Accent Police car (Source:Enidhi.net) pretty good except for the metal object (flag pole??) sticking out at the front on the bonnet. Could be a potential hazard if the car collides with a pedestrian or cyclist.

comment on what type of vehicles is used in your state and what vehicles you think would make a perfect police car.

For city police (esp. Chennai or other Indian cities), a less powered fuel efficient car is what we need, perhaps even a hybrid or the Hyundai i10. The highway police can have all the muscle cars or modded cars they need.

Catching criminals after chasing them? Now a days police were used more to provide security to visiting VVIPs and crowd controling at theatres where a matinee idol's movie has just released, infront of LPG dealers and fuel stations where the shortages force people waiting for hours turn rampant.

Jokes apart, Mahindra Commander was quite a sprinter.

As a matter of fact, Police stations are not limited to metropolitan areas and incidentally spread all over the country. Think of maintenance and service issues if they were to in for a Palio or an Accent or some other fancy cars. However, these vehicles are not capable of travelling on many of the roads.

An Invader or a Bolero is adequate.

It is better to equip them with sophisticated equipment and better conditions of operation than to spend on fancy cars which are not exactly the need of the hour.

Man! This has got to be the best cop car in our country by far!

And I don't think one can out run this!

But why, of all the places, is it parked under a no parking sign board?

I guess, those scorpios are not owned by police department of Andhra but owned by TTD[tirupati tirumala devsthanam] and used by police at Tirumala.

I think they would have been paid for by the TTD but owned and operated by the AP police.

I have seen a lot of newly commissioned BOLEROs in KERALA Police.

White Taveras are also there. They are for Highway Patrol whereas Boleros with soft tops are for the various circles/Police stations. Some Boleros are in white colour while others are black.

Thats a sweet fleet of Taveras and Invaders .. Why are some black and some white?

Also Did Mister Arun Kumar have a Tripod issue? Cause I need to find my Amurtanjan bottle after looking at the last post.
