Toyota to launch mid-sized sedans!

Todays news rings music to the ears! Toyota is going to bring out two mid-sized sedans in the range of Fiesta/Honda City/Aveo/Verna and a hatch back pitching against Swift in the next three years time. I just wonder where these guys have been for so long. If only they had entered the market a bit earlier or atleast the same time of Fiesta gen, it would have been so much more helpful people like me. Anyways, better late than never. It certainly is good news for that segment which has right now only either performance or after sales service available and not both. Hope Toyota brings both performance and after sales service together. And ofcourse, the trustworthiness too!

I guess the sedan would be the Toyota VIOS.
Any idea on the second sedan?

1>. The hatch - Would mostly be the yaris

2>. Sedan- Yaris sedan/vios[competing with honda city]

3>. Sedan- ????????[competing with logan,indigo]
This may be the india specific car they have been talking of

Ps: there are chances that the third may not be a sedan after all, could be the toyota avanza[qualis replacement],daihutsu terios/similar model even.

Or toyota will launch an old model into the indian markets again like the toyota echo[lets hope not].

i guess it is perfect timing by toyota. sales figures are going to go right up in 3 years time & that is when they want to make their mark. great strategy, as i see it.

The Echo is really a small car with nothing to boast about. I hope they dont launch this here. The Vios should do very well competing with the City/Fiesta.
Yaris, Vios and Auris? I like the Auris already

Vios is strong candidate for sure in its level. I heard sometime back that Sirion from Daihatsu (Toyota's sister concern, famous far cheap small cars) will be launched in india as well. Although Vios is a 1.5 ltr with all kinds of goodies like abs, 2 airbags, mp3 player std, quality wise not so interesting! as its currently manufactured in Thailand alone, the cars running in SE asia are from those factories. But Vios with Toyota's badge in its front will surely give others like fiesta, verna a run for their money. Not sure how far it will affect City?! Quality wise City is far far better imho.

The echo is a very old car from toyota ,basically a low cost sedan.

The original [between verna and echo] - Has to be you know who.

The auris is supposed to be a corolla replacement,so most likely is a costly car.

Ps: All the possible launches and the echo are just a wild guess from me,and knowing toyota we will have to wait for some years before anything can be confirmed

In markets where both are present the vios outsells the city.

I read the news in today's paper and got excited but was also disappointed by the 3 yr long wait...
I hope toyota doesnt plan on bringing the echo here. I have had the displeasure of sitting in it and found it very small and uncomfortable

Didnt Toyota recently say that their plants are running on full capacity and there is no room for production of new models?
Which was regarded as the prime reason why the Fortuner or Camry have not started production here.

These are nice developments indeed! I'm having a feeling that by the end of 5 years from 2007, Maruti's market share would have shrunk to 25%, that too held primarily due to their small cars.

Toyota, I remember reading somewhere, did an intensive 1.5 yr Indian market survey, and then ditched the plans they had for model launches then in India due to a portfolio misfit. They apparently are designing a small car from scratch just for India.

Yaris (Hatchback), Belta (Yaris sedan), Corolla Hatchback/Auris seem the more likely candidates. Daihatsu does have some compact SUVs too, can be positioned here too
