The lack of CVT or 1.5L petrol engine may just be a case of wait and watch. Indirect taxes are notorious at being fickle in India. The 4m rule and engine size is an Indian phenomenon.

A lot of companies are not sure as to which way the GST winds will blow. If the 4m rule is removed then it will open the floodgates to higher spec PV in the compact size as the motivation to save on excise abates. That being said Maruti Suzuki is heavily lobbying to keep these archaic rules in place to maximize their sales.

Hoping by June we should get clarity on the same. I guess Honda will show their next set of cards post that event.

re: Honda WR-V production begins in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 7.75 lakh

Motorbeam lists five reasons why you should buy the WRV -
1. Styling
2. Features.
3. Fuel efficient engines
4. Space
5. Dynamics.

And two reasons not to -
1. Interior quality
2. (Expected) price.

re: Honda WR-V production begins in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 7.75 lakh

Autocar India have come out with their First Drive report of WR-V.
Some points of interests from video:
  • Good styling. Looks different from Jazz and in a good way.
  • Spacious and a practical cabin. Spacious and well shaped boot.
  • No magic seats. Rear seats are not split and have integrated headrests.
  • No leather wrapped steering wheel.
  • Gear Lever feels thin to hold.
  • Android HU surprisingly doesn't have Android Auto or Apple Car Play.
  • Even with a raised suspension the ride and handling hasn't suffered.
  • ABS and Airbags standard across the range.
  • Cruise Control and Sunroof are standout features. Might become the USP.
  • A more powerful petrol and quieter diesel engine could have upped the desirability quotient.
  • Expected pricing to be 60-70k more than Jazz, which could result in a range of 7-10 lacs.

Another report from motoroids, which explores the exterior and interior in detail.

re: Honda WR-V production begins in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 7.75 lakh

Does it have telescopic steering and keyless entry?

Any safety updates, such as addition of isofix child seat mounts (which are missing on the Jazz)

Keyless entry is there as there is a Start / Stop button. Telescopic steering and ISOFIX mounts are doubtful as they are not present in Jazz as well.

I don't feel anything inspiring about this car but for the rear styling. Off late, Honda cars start looking too identical with a bulky chrome on the front, a thick crease at the sides and all too similar looking interiors.

re: Honda WR-V production begins in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 7.75 lakh

Can anyone help me with a doubt? Is it true that the WRV's wheelbase is 25mm longer than the Jazz? If so, what kind of changes have been made to the sheet metal? Sorry to sound like a noob , but in pictures, at least, both the cars look exactly the same in side profile.

Regards

Though the basic body frames of the Jazz and the WRV are same, they have changed the Suspension and possibly the angles of the swing arms, which leads to increase in the wheelbase overall. This would be due to increased ground clearance and the higher suspension travel. The Body panels would be a little different in the wheel wells due to the change in the wheel base too. What would be same with the the Jazz is the Side panels (Doors etc). The Front and rear overhang panels and Quarter panels would be different. Another way to increase the wheelbase is to have different (Shifted) weld points for the suspension components with the body which gives the manufacturers some flexibility for different Wheel Bases. VW also use this methodology in their MQB chassis and have central body panels which can be welded at different points to give higher Wheelbase in different cars as per the segments.

re: Honda WR-V production begins in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 7.75 lakh

At the cost of repetition, the vehicle looks handsome and about the right size for a crossover. Even the interiors would be decent in top trim I'm assuming because it brings the DigiPad and all. But that's where it ends for WR-V.

Wondering if Honda didn't offer bigger engine and CVT to keep the City exclusive? I'd rather they have 2 cars with different body designs but same engine and gearbox spec. Hyundai did it with Verna vs Creta.

This car would have been a perfect urban mini suv had it had the CVT and the 1.5 engine and wishful thinking rear ac vents and 6 airbags.

Dont understand Honda India game plan, they launch new products slowly and then kill it even before it has a chance to sell.

You have exactly echoed my thoughts on safety in Indian Cars , Charge some more but please give us more airbags (Dual Stage are in fact a distant dream right now) & ESP at the least . Not offering the 1.5L petrol engine from the city is a missed opportunity for Honda which will cost them dearly in sales .
