re: Honda WR-V production begins in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 7.75 lakh

So the sunroof seems to be doing its trick. A friend shifted his booking from Ecosport Titanium + TDCi to the WRV. The reason? Sunroof.

Tell him that he'll be missing 4 Additional Airbags, along with Height Adjustable Rear Headrests. The WR-V doesn't even have option of 6 Airbags unlike Ecosport. Along with that, the Heaviness that Ecosport has in terms of build will be missed. WR-V won't be a Tin can, but it won't match Ecosport.

Lastly you should remind him that he is buying an inferior car at a higher price. Despite the lack of Sunroof, the Ecosport is a superior car between the two.

Unless Honda prices it below Ecosport by significant margin (Highly Unlikely), your friend might have made a big mistake.

The car looks good. But I do not understand why Honda has omitted CVT option as it is the USP in the segment, especially compared to Brezza. 1.5L engine with CVT would be a killer. Considering it is a Honda, space management should be awesome.

All your points are bang on. But one cannot fight the sunroof logic.

This is exactly what Honda is targeting with its premium positioning approach. Most people give more value to a sunroof and touchscreen ICE than 4 extra airbags and better build quality that they will never be able to flaunt or see!

I went in for the Honda City VX-CVT as my kids wanted a car with a sun roof! I had actually made my mind up on the V-CVT. Sure it has a pull!

Trust me, doc saab, an absolutely gimmicky and show-off feature like the sunroof sells big in India, despite it's near uselessness in India's hot, humid and acrid conditions.

I know of at least 5 people in my circles who bought a car just because it has a sunroof, everything else be damned.

And even under-powered petrols sell. Just look at the Elite i20, the Jazz, the Figo, even the Tiago.

It's not like the WR-V won't find it's share of takers. It all depends on the pricing. And knowing Honda, they might even get away with a slight premium, since the WR-V has enough to distinguish itself from the Jazz (externally, at least), plus our country's current fascination for pseudo-SUV crossovers, plus it carries the Honda badge.

+1.

Let's also not forget that Jazz is currently the best value product in the Honda lineup, and WRV builds on it. Also, the current City has moved up in the price chain, and should leave some potential City customers looking at the WRV as an option as well.

I think this should be a decent seller, but might cannibalize the Jazz at one end and the BRV at the other.

I wholeheartedly agree with you sir. Truth be told even I would not mind having a sunroof in my car ( of course not at the expense of airbags though!). The only thing that matters is the pricing of this car.

+1. I'd seriously consider it against a Creta if it had a better engine and CVT. Not that it would be a better vehicle still, but it's newer and has more bells and whistles.

But no, Honda wants to sell a 'premium' product with inferior technology

A few more colour shades of the WR-V test drive cars, which are arriving at Honda dealerships nationwide ahead of the crossover-SUV's launch day after tomorrow.

i have seen all the first drive reviews posted on this thread, none of them is talking about anything negative over the competition either.
+1. . No problem. My post does not have reference either to the negatives or positives that are specific to the car. It is anything but the attitude of Honda. Your earlier post has proved that Honda needs to work on a lot on things beyond just the car, esp. the pricing vs. premium'ness etc.

And please...like you've been 10 steps ahead of Honda...give us a sneak view of the interiors as well; would like to know if there's a cruise control, EBD, Hill assist etc etc & will it have a fair chance to stand against SCross...forget the Brezza for now. Thanks.

Cruise Control is present (Only on Diesel), while EBD is standard across the range, but other Safety Features like 6 Airbags, Hill Start Assist, ESP have been given a miss. Brezza & Ecosport (D) (Barring 6 Airbags) don't have them either.

Yes, it has a 1.2 Petrol Mill, but the comparison posted above is of Diesel Versions. The 1.5 iDTEC produces 100 BHP while the 1.5 iVTEC produces 117 BHP. That should be enough to conclude that this isn't the 1.5 Petrol.
