Re: Rumour: Toyota C-HR crossover is coming to India

I saw the C-HR today and i think it looks really smart! And it really looks good in this shade.

BUT (there is always a but) when i peeped inside, I doubt it is big on space inside, probably as roomy as the Ecosport. And it is no where as imposing or "looks" full size like the Creta does. If Toyota gives it standard feature set that we have come to expect from Hyundai and prices it around the Creta price, this will sell.

The first picture is my colleague standing next to it (on the sidewalk tho) to give you an idea of its size.

Re: Rumour: Toyota C-HR crossover is coming to India

Pitted against the Juke, the C-HR is definitely bigger and therefore roomier. However, this is only relative. It has space of a large hatchback which could be comparable to the Swift.

I see more and more of these each day and cannot help but appreciate the design appeal. It definitely has the shock effect that has been missing in Toyota's of the past.

who will buy it? atleast in Finland I see either the younger gen's or older gen's buy them. Goes to say, the C-HR is low on practicality thanks to the radical shape.

All the other compact SUV's in India have more traditional body styles and therefore would be more practical in India. the C-HR may remain a niche vehicle since the buying types would still be the younger gen's who don't care much about practicality. Also, Toyota cannot stop themselves from over pricing it anyway.

speaking of looks, it certainly has a very polarising design. some hate it and some love it. I am from the latter club. another example - I love the current Lexus design language while most don't.

Any guesses on the launch time frame of CHR in India?

Toyota is eyeing an affordable SUV for India . Likely to be its globally successful mode,l C-HR.

the company does not have any plans to develop a model right from scratch.

Globally, we have some options in compact SUVs through models such as Rush and CH-R. We are considering what models could be more suitable for India

it could be in the Rs 10-15 lakh range

Not having moved towards this at the auto expo it seem unlikely to come.

I love it's shape.

But it may be overpriced close to 20L it being a Toyota that thinks it is a Mercedes in India.

Re: Rumour: Toyota C-HR crossover is coming to India

I think this is the best and most user friendly integration of the "Beat/Swift-type" rear door handle.

A radical design indeed. I think it'll be a hit in India if priced in the Ecosport bracket or even a lakh above it but I doubt it's coming to India anytime soon. Toyota have been very slow to react to the market. They are making an entry (with Yaris) to the C-segment almost 8 years after the launch of Etios. To substantiate the speculation, as ACM said, they have not displayed it in the auto expo either. So I have my doubts.

Saw a brand new one yesterday in Bangalore E.City. Not sure if this was a test mule undergoing testing by Continental or some import. There was no masking outside. Could not look inside so not sure if some equipment was installed inside or not.

Why not bring in the Rav4 as a competitor to the Jeep? Has everything one expects at that price level. Equipment, AWD, road presence. Can surely slot in the D1 segment easily. Not sure how will the market react to CH-R. With a 4+m dimension, I am not sure if they can price it along with Ecosport. Will they price it along Creta? If so, there are other practical choices in that price range. Tough indeed if they are planning to bring it to India for volumes.

Exactly my thoughts. Instead of bringing C-HR, why not Rav4. The new gen which is just revealed in NY auto show is really looking good compared to the previous generation. But i don't think they will place it in the price range of compass. Being a Toyota, they will make it between innova and fortuner range. So will be for new CR-V.

Toyota, I do not think is even considering these cars for India! Post the Yaris, they now have the Baleno and Brezza clones in the pipeline which do not require any development at all. Toyota being Toyota, have been extremely slow and conservative in launching new models in India. Hence I do not think anything is in the pipeline.

Apart from the rebadged Baleno and Brezza I can only think of the next gen corolla coming in sometime in the next 2 years.
