Once I was dumbstruck when a NRI asked me for what does the "xi" stands for in the car categorisation ?
We've a lot of "xi" used in car classification in India.
For example,So what's
so special about this "xi" ???? :p
i guess it has something to do with being sexy. lol:
na, i dont think there is any explanation for this. we can make up any number of things, but that is not what it is. In maruti parlance, i can say that the i was introduced for mpfi cars. of course it was done a little late too. cant say for the others.
With the lancer there were
GL / GLXi / SLXi / SFXi / GLD
The X factor I don't know, The i Factor for Power Steering,MPFI System ( Maybe " i " mean Intelligent control system)
My opiniion Is Like..
Lx- LuXury
Vx- Very Luxurious
Zx- The last letter in Luxury
GL-Good Looking
GLXi- good looking and Luxurious (maybe intelligent)
SLXi- Sports and Luxurious
SFXi- Only Sports Effects No Luxury
GLD- Good looking But Diesel
Exi- Economy But Intelligent

This is hilarious clap:
Nice one Jomz.
But seriously it could be because it sounds good.
Like ZXi sounds better then ZAi or something.
In Maruti, the 'i' stands for MPFi engines i think.
In Mitsubishi - the 'i' stands for petrol.
In other companies.
God only knows why.
there is more of xi
verna comes in i,xi,xxi.how well you can decode it,and
xi-x-clusively indian (features)
ram
well for Maruti cars.. i is for power steering and then it goes as
LX - Luxury
VX- Very luxury
ZX - highest in luxury
Most car companies follow some convention e.g. for TATAs..
LE - economy
LS - mid segment
LX - Luxury
you put a G it is gasoline... put a D it is Diesel
X for luxury... so Hyundai marketing people went a bit ahead with that and included X everywhere XL, XO, XG and now XI, XXI...
~maniac
well atleast in maruti cars "i" at the end meant power steering.
for eg when the zen was carburetted the nomenclature was :lx(base model) and vx(top model)
after mpfi,it became lx,lxi, vxi where lx was base model, lxi -base model with power windows and power steering and vxi-top of the line.
i remember opel astra used to have a huge sticker at the back which read "GSI"
hyundai follows "e","s","x".for eg:santro-xe,xo,xg,xs :getz and accent have gle, gls, glx.
at the end who cares the best sounding one is gtx(palio anyone)

Before the Palio GTX came about, I think the Accent Tornado GTX was already in the market. Anyway, just to point out, there are 2 GTXs.

I do not think that 'i' stands for mpfi. because, there was a variant in ALTO without the i but with mpfi. i.e. Vx1.1. I think that the i stands for power steering.

Really? I thought it was the other way round. And yeah you are right, there are two GTXs in the market. Though with Hyundai's penchant for copying stuff we could guess which came first. I may be wrong though.
LX = Less Xpensive
VX = VERY XPENSIVE
