Both are right, infact! As per MG Motors -

"The name 'Hector' draws inspiration from the noble qualities of the Trojan warrior hero – Prince Hector of Troy.

It pays homage to great British engineering tradition, as a nod to the Royal Hector biplane, used by the Royal Air Force in the 1930s.

‘Hector’ stands for everything Strong, Bold, Trustworthy and Dependable.

Well...the other names that this vehicle goes by overseas are

Wuling Almaz and Baojun 530.

Wuling: Five Diamonds, Mandarin
Almaz: Diamond, Ethiopian
(so Five Diamond's Diamond?)

Baojun 530
Baojun: Treasured Horse, Mandarin )

Im happy that they went with Hector instead of trying some literal translations

I found this video on Baojun 530. I guess the Hector will be pretty much the same thing looking at the test mule.

Also came to know the same car will be rebranded as Chevrolet Captiva for Latin America. This is some serious rebranding stuff.

Must say the car feels well put together and with a proven engine and drivetrain it might sell. Service network is another grey area.

MG partners with MYLES to offer the HECTOR on Subscription basis like the Nissan Kicks

MG Motor India has announced a partnership with Myles to offer its upcoming Hector SUV with a subscription model. The tie-up between the two will enable potential customers to try out the MG Hector and future products from the British brand without buying them and help MG leverage Myles’ existing network in addition to the planned 110 sales and service outlets planned by the carmaker.

Quote:
Myles is a car sharing and car subscription company that is a subsidiary of Carzonrent. The mobility solutions provider has a network that spreads across 21 cities in the country. This partnership between MG Motor India and Myles is part of the former’s ‘MG Drives Innovation’ initiative that aims to aid start-ups in the automotive space.

Both brands believe the value of this tie-up will be over the Rs 250 crore mark in the first phase. The second phase of the partnership is likely to begin after the launch of MG’s second model for India, confirmed to be an all-electric SUV based on the MG eZS, which is scheduled to arrive before the end of 2019.

The Hector, MG’s first product for India, is meant to take on the likes of the Hyundai Tucson and Honda CR-V.
Since the Hector is expected to be priced in the same range, a subscription service for the MG SUV should help the carmaker extend its reach.
Nissan is another carmaker that is exploring this avenue. The Japanese manufacturer brought out its Kicks at Rs 9.55-14.65 lakh and has a subscription package for a price of Rs 11 per kilometre.

MG Motor in talks for contract manufacturing with VW India, M&M-Ford

Quote:
MG Motor is in talks with Volkswagen as well as the Mahindra-Ford JV to lease out their plants for contract manufacturing its cars in India. The move comes as the company — a British brand but a subsidiary of China’s SAIC — faces increased government scrutiny in view of the border tensions between India and China, especially when it comes to fresh investment plans

Is this being done to meet the current and near future demands and to add capacity or they are planning to do away with their own manufacturing altogether and just source via contract manufacturing?

A bit of both. The government is throttling Chinese investment via enhanced financial scrutiny. This means capital for investment gets impacted. MG is in a position where it cannot create or purchase additional capacity. Only way forward is to lease additional capacity. There is not way to stop this unless the government throttles Chinese imports with tariffs etc. Perhaps MG will need to share their designs with vendors and we play their game and get knock off EMMJI cars!

I digress - It is a brilliant win win strategy - MG get to expand, the automotive sector gets to utilise capacity, the government will get more tax revenue.

Maybe Great Wall should ask GM to be their contract manufacturer until things are ironed out!

Re: MG Motors India formed by SAIC, China’s largest automobile company

MG Aims To Cross 50k Sales In 2021

In its first year, that is 2019, MG sold about 16k cars in India. This has increased to 30k cars in 2020 – despite the pandemic and lockdown. Now, in 2021, MG aims to increase its sales by 70-80%. This implies that they are aiming to sell about 51k to 54k cars in 2021.

After the planned launches of 2021 Hector and Hector 7-seater in early 2021, MG plans to bring in the MG ZS SUV. The ZS which will be brought in, will be powered by a petrol motor and will come with updated styling - 2020 facelift of the ZS SUV (which is sold globally).

Expect the new MG ZS to be priced aggressively in the Rs 8 lakh range – much lower than Creta and Seltos.

Isn’t 8 lakh way to less for a 4M + vehicle? Maybe 10L will be the right starting price.

Nothing wrong in that SCross & Duster petrols too start at the same range , if you're short of powertrain options you can't stretch much like Koreans !

Unlike Duster & SCross MG will generate good volume at those prices.
