Doubt this pricing. This is too good to be true. The older Thar ex showroom price was 9.99L.
The new one cannot be priced so low.

To be perfectly honest the old Thar was overpriced and a high margin product for Mahindra. It was a barebones vehicle which could have easily have been priced 1.5 lakh lower !

I hope the new one is priced as per the leaked figures !

It is a turbo petrol so it could be more expensive than the diesel.

If this pricing is true, the Thar will be doing crazy numbers in Punjab and Haryana for sure especially in the university and college campuses.

The AX pricing makes sense, but the LX variants pricing seems too good to be true.

If indeed this pricing turns out to be true then Suzuki should drop Jimny from their plans altogether it will never be able to stand it's ground if Thar is priced so low.

All it proves is that Mahindra cares about the TVC, the money it brings (as corporates are supposed to). Not the product itself. Everything that had to be done on the product, has already been done - a trip to Ladakh doesn't improve the product.
OTOH, sending employees to Ladakh while a pandemic and a border-dispute breaks out... Idk, can't give any bonus points to Mahindra for this.

Why is the LX missing the softtop variant in this price leak? I thought that's offered by what's seen in the videos

Sounds about right. If mahindra is smart they will price it even lower than this as well.

They want to manufacture and sell big numbers ( 4 - 5 digits ) and unfortunately the only way to do is superb VFM pricing.

I have booked and blocked my LX Black Hardtop AT by paying 25000. Expecting mine in the first batch of deliveries whenever that happens.

Not going to happen. This is in Duster range. I don't think Mahindra would like to see it in the same league.

Re: The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86

This seems a very plausible price! I still remember XUV5oo pricing in 2010 or so! I guessed it around 12+ but it was launched well below that and eventually they have gone crazy with the pricing. So, I guess already the price could be around this and M&M wants a hit desperately especially after multiple slow sellers but good products like xuv3oo. So, what Ananda Mahindra wants is initially a super hit tag and then keep increasing 5k here and 10k there and laugh all the way to banks!

BTW I need a buyer for my 2013 Innova G immediately! :-) Booking LX Auto Diesel.

Re: The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86

It is a totally bogus "price leak" with so many inconsistencies. There is no way the Thar can be priced this low.

We are speaking of a modern 4X4 Body on Frame truck, with strength and material content not too far away from the Fortuners and Endeavours ! Also, there is no way the Petrol can be lower priced than the Diesel in any of the variants, the petrol engine offered has very comparable level of size, sophistication, engineering and torque output as VW 2.0 TSI we see on Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Superb, which are 40 lakh cars.

My guess is AX range will be priced 10-13 lakhs ex-showroom and LX range from 14-17 lakhs ex-showroom.

Inflationary factors for new model-

- independent suspension
- new engines
- new transmission
- cabin comforts
- safety features

Deflationary factors-

- It is still a niche 2 door
- Current business environment
- Mahindra's brand value
- cannibalization from current Mahindra product portfolio
- selling to new set of more mainstream customers to start with
- teething problems with a new product

I would think the top end auto will not have an ex-showroom price beyond 13.XX lakhs. Once the 4 door is ready and the product is accepted, prices can go beyond 14.XX
Curious where the 4 door info has come from? If this is true, then it would be awesome! Do share!

With you that the pricing seem inconsistent, and would probably have been anyone's guess than a leak.

But check this post of mine (The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86), where I'd given a break up of what you get from each variant - I don't think the variation within AX will be as much as you expect, neither between VX. There will be a good difference between the AX series and the VX series though, looking at the feature layout.

Ignore my pricing guess-work, it'd be as good or bad as anybody's

Old Thar owners right now.
The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86-2ztqsn.jpg

Hell no. They cant give out 150bhp at 12 lakhs. Does not compute. The old Thar had Maruti 800 type wiper control stalks if I remember and even that was priced above 10L

Old Thar and New Thar are two different vehicles and not an evolution in my opinion. Old Thar is a unique vehicle with its own charm. So no reasons to cry
