What would be the power specs for the range topping AT models in both Deisel and Petrol variants?

How are the NVH levels for both Petrol and Deisel versions in their Hard Top form?

This is interesting.. I don’t think there will be a petrol 4wd without a Turbo. It will not have enough low end torque for offroad. (I may have misunderstood what you have written.)

He is making it sound as if Mahindra will make a Seltos or a Compass out of the Thar, with over half a dozen variants and configurations. Seems to me more like his personal Wishlist than anything close to the truth.

Although I personally wouldn't mind a 4WD+Petrol+AT !

Spotted the Thar Hardtop test mule up close and personal earlier today near Electronic City. My guess is that it is heading towards Continental. Couldn't take a video of it though. My apologies.
Few observations -
1 - There wasn't much movement when driven over some bad and broken roads. Mahindra have touched upon the suspension for sure.
2 - It was relatively quiet and silent.
3 - The front and rear LED's were missing from this. I can safely assume that there might be a Hardtop Base variant coming as well.

You are right, it is being tested by Continental for a few months now. I have seen it in the basement parking lot of Continental with other Mahindra test mules (Gold Hill Supreme building).

It is weird how the side step is missing in this test mule.
Also, no camouflage on the door handles indicate towards the base variants coming without body-colored door handles as compared to the top end hard top mule which had the camouflage on the door handles too.

Is there any remote chance that the features shown in the image are not for Indian variant but for International model, if this is going to be exported?

Some interesting insights from Pawan Goenka about Thar in this interview, he has recently driven it and it drives like a modern car. Check the interview from 25:00 minutes onwards to know about the new Thar.

Somewhere around 26:00, Mr. Goenka shares his experience of driving the new Thar, he confirms it will get the 2.2L Diesel engine. No efforts to guess which engine it would be as the only 2.2L Diesel engine available in Mahindra stable is the Mhawk engine. It would be interesting to see in what state of tune it will be launched (120bhp/140bhp/160bhp). But since it is getting a 6 speed gear box I feel that it will be 140 bhp or higher, taking reference from TUV300+ and Scorpio.

re: The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86

Earlier today I was watching some reviews on youtube. This reviewer from Overdrive states that the new mStallion 2.0 Petrol will go in the Thar and will be mated to an 8-speed Auto. Elsewhere in the video, he also mentions that Mahindra already has been testing this engine with an 8-speed tranny.

If that's true, then I am guessing all auto variants will get the same 8-speed box(?).

Any thoughts/insights?

Here's the youtube link; you may wanna FF to 4:30 (hope the link works, am new here and this is my fist time posting)

8-speed? That will push the price up into the clouds. Why do Mahindra go from doing too little to doing too much. 8-speed will be an overkill. Just give us a 5 or 6 speed TC. That's enough. This isn't a sport sedan. I know , I know before people hit me up with Range Rover's 10-speed tranny, it may be noted that RR isn't exactly an under 20-Lakh car.

re: The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86

With the ever ending delays.

Had to share a video made by a TeamBHPian in the the first gen Thar's page.

With the Thar, guess Mahindra has great flexibility in the variants spread and pricing range, given that for now atleast except for the niche Gurkha, there isn't any proper rival. Add to that the ' lifestyle tax' customers will have to pay for such vehicles.

IMHO, Thar should start at 10 lakhs for the bare bones version. Modern vehicle bare bones, not Thar MDi kind of bare bones!!!

All the way to 15-16 lakhs for the 2.0l GDI petrol with auto.

I know most members would say it's unrealistic, and have seen posts saying it may touch 20 lakhs.

But with the upcoming Scorpio and XUV500, there is only so much the Thar can go upmarket. Atleast the bulk of popular variants should be priced below Scorpio.

The Thar can co-exist with the XUV300 and even the upcoming Ford collab, but never with the Scorpio.

Have they removed the big MAHINDRA badging below the windscreen. From the pics it looks like there is no space for the badging, the new windscreen is big. Or is it due to camaflouge?

Windscreen is not big. The bonnet has risen close to windscreen, as is in Wrangler. Old Thar had very low bonnet and big glasshouse. These days, it is high bonnet-line and smaller glasshouse. Thank God for that. I never liked older Thar but new one? Absolutely smashing.
