I'm pretty ,much sure that they will. If Jeep can sue M&M over Roxor, then why not this? They might be licensed to use Jeeps design as seen on the original Thar, but why would Jeep let them copy the Wrangler? Thats as far as the spy shots suggest.

re: The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86

On a lighter note (don't hate me) - I really am praying that the car is overpriced. Overall the car looks good, has a well laid out interior, dashboard & good looking switchgear all round. Overall interior panel, roof treatment is pretty modern. I like it!

Having purchased 2 cars in last 3 years I am no longer in a position to buy a THAR which I would have had it been available in 2019 (BSIV diesel engine prices) perhaps. So a high price point at launch will at least let me be happy with a sour grapes philosophy! A very competitive price on launch will be like a kick where it hurts the most for me!

But many are not really aware of such release other than internet users or automobile enthusiasts. One of my known acquaintance is going to book a Nexon today. I had asked him to wait for Thar but he asks if this Mahindra Thar has sunroof. Case rested. He's going to own Nexon with sunroof.

Easily the most desirable product from Mahindra yet! Having seen the test mule multiple times on the highway, I can confidently say that dynamically this will be as good as any average body-on-Frame SUV in our market.

My only doubt related to safety would be the hardtop's strength, when compared with top hat of other Suvs.

They can sue!!! Unlike the courts of America, the case wont have a result until 20 years from today.

On a serious note. M&M holds the design rights to certain drawings of Jeep.

It's been ages since new Thar is on the cards. I reckon the response of the market would be good enough as the current gen Thar is screaming for updates be it aesthetics or technical.

re: The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86

I have been following the Thar since the first test mules were seen on road. Some pointers which I have collated and have been pondering are -

1) Hope Mahindra does not go the Harrier way and spoil the enthusiasm by giving in bits and pieces. They should rather go the Kia way!
2) The outer layer looks very promising. Hope the panel gaps and fitments are in sync with today's standards.
3) Hope they have worked well on the NVH levels. If they want to lure soft roaders and brand it as a family car too, they will have to insulate the car properly.
4) The rear front facing seats will be the highlight as this is a first time for Thar. If they are well bolstered and comfortable, half the battle to lure a family man is achieved.
5) Tata Harrier has not shown us any crash tests yet. Thar should not follow suit. Safety is a very important aspect in selling cars today. Though we love the tagline "My car doesn't have airbags, we die like men", however we would like airbags in the Thar.
6) Hope they do not tune down the engine for mileage in the Thar. Mileage is not a priority for this segment of customer, though it doesn't hurt to save a buck!
7) Pricing, pricing and pricing.

Rest I feel this is a great initiative by Mahindra. Everybody wants to buy a Thar, but very few do. This statement might change, if Mahindra plays this match from heart, because Thar is and will always be a passionate buy!

Looks brilliant. And is light years ahead of the current contraption. Seeing the doorpads itself makes me jealous .And are those overhead speaker pods?Damn! The hard top and rear door look sturdy and well finished.Surely Mahindra has put someone capable in charge this time. Well done.

Hope the production version doesn't come with a key for opening the fuel cap as shown in the 2nd last picture.

I hope Mahindra price this sensibly and don't go overboard. This would be a good alternative to the C-SUVs.

If the underthigh support is good - that rear seat alone is worth the wait over the current generation.

Note the padded rollbar.
Gives a feeling of a well engineered model, unlike the old contraption.
Jeepers don't flame mer. But a rear wash/wipe and typical Mahindra style front armrests would have been a nice round off.

Finally, some fresh pictures to the eyes. Fed up of seeing those old worn out camouflages.

Stunning! And this particular greenish variant - mind blowing.
