Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

Concepts are good but what buyers prefer is everyday, mundane practicality along with snob value.

Tata displaying concept cars or any other manufacturer doing so is a routine for them.

For Tata to become a aam jantaa sales wide, it has to do a Maruti.

On a side note, to come to think of it, Tata has a snobish value too. Not many buy a Tata and among those who buy, motor field professionals are quite a few. That's a professional validation!!!!

Isn't Maruti the one who's showcasing 12 concepts?
TATA have turned their concepts into production ready cars and even the twins which are showcased in this expo are expected to be in the market within the year.

As per me, its better they don't do a Maruti! Its impossible to reach their sales figures in the near future. So instead of following what they do, it would be better to launch much well designed and quality products across multiple segments and not just stick to one or two segments/price brackets.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

Great effort to do comedy, by all in the video.

One sore point. Here goes the the conversation:

Narain Karthikeyan: I work with Tata Motors on the dynamics of their passenger cars.

Varun Thakur: Tell me something about the Racemo.

Narain Karthikeyan: Well, I haven't seen it.

Now imagine Varun Thakur's surprise (which is evident in the video too!).

That's a facepalm moment for Tata Motors right there. You have hired a racecar driver and you haven't even shown him your sports car, let alone drive it.

The video looks pretty much scripted. Else the head of design wouldn't have been introduced in that way.

Video published by Tata Motors and shot at Tata's facility in Pune. It has to be a scripted one, right?

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

KIA Just tweeted about an electric car at auto expo. I am expecting it to be Kia Niro EV (fully electric EV concept) which they showed at CES in January.

Specs of Niro Electric SUV:
64 kWh battery,
150 KW electric motor,
238 miles (383 KMs) of range.

It is obviously scripted and edited.

But, the point, that they seem to have missed, is what I was trying to make.

The fact that they have hired a race car driver, that too, Narain Karthikeyan, to fine tune the driving dynamics of their cars. And they haven't even let him go near their sports car, which is weird, in my opinion.

Re: The 2018 Auto Expo Thread

New Renaults coming to the Auto Expo 2018; Kwid-based SUV to all-new Duster.

1) Renault Duster:

Quote:
Renault Duster, which is sold as the Dacia Duster in many foreign markets has been updated internationally. Even though the all-new model was launched in the international market, the Indian launch has been delayed due to the arrival of the Captur. Now the new Duster is expected to be launched by the mid of 2018.

The new Duster gets a new grille and a repositioned windscreen that adds a fresh look to it. The interiors have also been thoroughly updated to give a modern look. Renault may continue to use the current engine options with the upcoming Duster.
2) Renault Zoe:

Quote:
Renault Zoe was recently spotted in India donning a Bengaluru based electric cab aggregator’s stickers on its body. Now it has been confirmed that Renault will showcase the electric car at the Auto Expo 2018. The car hatchback is quite practical for the Indian conditions and can do 400 km on a full charge according to the European cycle.

The Zoe also gets a massive 41 kWh battery that gets a quick charging option. It can be charged to 80% from nought in about 65 minutes. Renault claims that in the real world, the car will do around 300 km on a full charge while the battery will take 7-8 to charge completely.

3)Kwid-based compact SUV – HBC

Quote:
The Kwid hatchback already has the looks inspired from compact SUV. However, the car cannot be passed as a full-fledged SUV. Renault will take the Kwid as a base and will make it a more intimidating vehicle. It will be based on modified version of the CMF-A platform to accommodate the heavier and bigger SUV body.

The car is expected to get higher ground clearance, a wider body and more muscular creases on the body. The car is also expected to get a thick body cladding around and refreshed face and rear. On the side, the compact SUV may look similar to the Kwid itself to keep the costs down.
4)Kwid-based MPV – RBC

Quote:
Renault is also working on a 7-seater station wagon that will be based on the same CMF-A platform. Codenamed as RBC, the vehicle is expected to measure under 4 meters in length. It is expected to be similar to the Datsun Go Plus, which is also a seven-seater vehicle and is under 4-meter of length. The vehicle is expected to be priced around Rs. 5 lakh in the market and will be one of the cheapest 7-seaters in India.
5)Kwid facelift

Quote:
The Kwid was first launched in 2015, it has been almost three years now and the hatchback not received any exterior updates. Renault is working on a facelifted model of the Kwid that will be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. There will not be major changes in the vehicle. The engines and transmission options will remain same.
