Re: Aadhaar to be mandatory for driving licence

@kiku007; How is giving your biometrics to a foreign govt any different from giving to your employer for punching in? But neither the foreign govt nor your employer have an all encompassing authority over you. If the US decided to clone you and send the fake kiku007 to spy on India, The Indian Govt and Foreign affairs ministry will intervene on your behalf. If your Indian govt misuses the Aadhar data, who will you go to for help?
But this kind of racial profiling is really good in a way, we can silently get rid of all unwanted elements and put them in a gas chamber. With an Aadhar card, they cannot even take a piss without it raising a red flag. "One card to rule them all." This has happened everywhere, the Nazis, the communists, North Korea, Idi Amin, all had such registries. This will give the Indian Govt the power to become truly great and unified. For the Greater Good.
All patriotic citizens should get an Aadhar card. If Pakistan can do it 10 years back, we can also do it.

Re: Aadhaar to be mandatory for driving licence

I have already experienced this real time, booked a car and tried to register it but the RTO folks refused to register it without Adhara. Had to wait for 2 weeks to get the Adhara number before registering it.

Re: Aadhaar to be mandatory for driving licence

There seems to be no escape from the AADHAR chakravyuha. Survey of India maps (3000 of them!) have been made available to the public for free download from their site http://soinakshe.uk.gov.in/. The catch? One needs to enter the AADHAR number to gain access to the maps . Wonder where else Government will require us to quote this magic number.

Read that the CISF constable peering at a "government issued ID card" will be redeployed; instead they plan to switch to Aadhar based authentication at airport ingress points.

Re: Aadhaar to be mandatory for driving licence

Going by current debate (& SC case) about privacy infringement, the latest SC ruling (SC extension of all deadlines for mandatory Aadhaar usage) does this requirement for DL issuance put on hold for now?
I suppose not, as such usage has not been flagged in SC rulings.

RTOs in Hyderabad continue to compulsorily ask for Aadhaar for DL and vehicle registrations.

Re: Aadhaar to be mandatory for driving licence

I really do not buy the argument that mandatory aadhaar is being done to stop corruption and fraud. Because, if they were really serious about stopping corruption, they would make aadhaar mandatory for any contribution to political parties. But, they will never do that. So much for stopping corruption and bringing in black money.

Re: Aadhaar to be mandatory for driving licence

So not just for new licenses, Aadhaar is going to be linked to existing licenses too:

"On the issue of fake licences, joint secretary, MoRTH informed that NIC (national informatics centre) is now preparing 'Sarthi-4' under which all the licences would be linked to Aadhaar"

Except that issuing a license is a privilege and not our right as per the constitution.

Aadhar judgement is regarding encroachment of govt in discharging it's duties in abiding citizens rights listed here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fund...ights_in_India
That is why we have a driving *license* card and not a *right* to drive card.
Definition of license as per Indian law is here https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/blog....nse-india/amp/

Didn't quite understand the point. First of all, there is no Aadhaar judgment yet. Only interim orders. The actual hearing is going on as we speak, and Gautam Bhatia live-tweets about it in his Twitter account. Today's is here:

https://twitter.com/gautambhatia88/s...82036128206849

(What is the relevance of the Wikipedia link? I couldn't find any mention of driving license or Aadhaar in that article).

Well, we also have "license to practice medicine/law" or "license to run a restaurant" and suchlike. None of that indicates a privilege. As long as driving as an activity is not banned, there will be people doing it as a profession and they will get the protection of article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India.

This is talking of the Easement Act, which governs land (immovable property) transactions. It has nothing to do with driving license. This is the license in "Leave & License Agreement" that you execute, if you are doing serious rental business (not the average home rental).

That's correct. This is to ensure that there is no fake licenses and it came from the road safety committee appointed by Supreme Court.

"The aim, a court-appointed committee said, was to weed out fake licenses and a software is being prepared that will connect licenses issued in all states on real-time.

A report filed in the top court - where another bench is taking a call on a bunch of petitions challenging the validity of 12-digit Unique Identification number -- said the National Informatics Centre is preparing the software, which is called "Sarthi-4"

This software will cover all the states on real time basis and it will not be possible for anyone to get duplicate or fake licence anywhere in the country," said the report from the committee on road safety, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice KS Radhakrishnan"

That's the only point I'm touching on. With regard to the program in itself, I have my doubts on the undue priority the present Government is giving to it, when larger issues are un-addressed.
Its not just limited to submitting biometrics, you're in fact allowing them to keep your biometrics on other country server for 10 years ( Eg :For Irish Visa)

Sharing of biometric information

Your fingerprint records, and the results of any database searches, may be disclosed to other Irish Government Departments and/or Agencies, including An Garda Síochána (Irish Police), as well as to public authorities of the European Union/EEA and/or other States, including for the purpose of identification and/or immigration history.
Retention of biometric information

Your fingerprint records will be kept for 10 years from the date they were provided, and will then be destroyed. This period is subject to review in accordance with Irish law.

Looks like today's Supreme Clue judgement nixes the idea of making Aadhaar mandatory for driving licence
