I guess the more important question here is, if i book my compass today, will i be assured of getting the same on road price as of today, even if the delivery is after 10th sept?

Not necessarily, and that's the exact reason why crossovers are getting more and more popular - not just in India, but globally as well!

Unlike traditional SUV and sedan categories - they tend to appeal to both the segments as a midway compromise between the two. Clearly evident in this thread as well where the comparisons have come from the likes of Octavia and Hexa/ XUV.

How is it similar to Octavia? Quite a lot - Build quality, highway manners, 2.0 diesel engine with almost comparable specs, premium appeal etc. Even a poor reputation for service. Take an example of someone looking at a good highway cruiser, but doesn't want the bulk of a traditional SUV - both of these vehicles are going to appeal to him.

In a world where people use different vehicles for each purposes - it doesn't make much sense. But nowadays, people want one vehicle that can do multiple roles - and hence the comparisons that cross the segment barriers.

In that case, why isn't the Hexa equally comparable for the same reasons? Yes it is bigger in size, but in terms of length/width that are the two critical dimensions, so is Octavia compared to the significantly smaller in length Compass.

And as for highway manners, I would pick the Octavia any day for safety; both Hexa and Compass would be more susceptible to rolling over than Octavia.

Re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

It took me a few days to catch up all the pages in this thread as the number of posts kept accelerating faster than what I could read

My observation is that the pricing looks ok, the base variants loose out on important features and could have been priced a tad more lower. The top end versions should justify their pricing by getting the missing features like 6 airbags, cruise control and panoramic sunroof. Diesel automatic 4x4 is a big miss and will drive away many genuine buyers. The price difference between a few variants is absurd and should be corrected.

I'm certainly looking for an upgrade, the Compass looks enticing, but I guess I should wait for atleast an year so that FCA gets its acts right in regards to features, stability and service of this product.

FCA India seems to have received 9,000+ bookings for Jeep Compass as of yesterday as per a senior executive working with them.

Suddenly, the TUV 300 looks like a wanna-be Compass(No offence to Mahindra owners here :-). It will be interesting to see if the launch of Compass will put a dent on TUV sales, not because its in the price bracket or segment, but because it might look like an imitation of Compass.

That's about 4000 bookings since 10 days after the price announcement, in comparison to 5000 pre-bookings. So they price has indeed been well received by the mass market.

That's almost a three month waiting period I guess, for people planning to join the queue now.

Re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Hi All,

I'm looking for an upgrade and considering the Compass;

Have the below queries can you guys help me with the same:
1: Does the 4*4 Limited have hill descent?
2: The list of features in the Jeep Compass website doesn't talk about hill descent, but I saw couple of reviews on YouTube where they show the Compass getting down the hill/slope with very little input from the driver on the brake or the accelerator; they are just controlling the steering; Does that mean the Jeeps 4*4 Active drive system takes care of the hill descent automatically?

Your expert comments are appreciated!

Thanks!

I have heard that Spare parts could be an issue (long wait times) since MOPAR doesn't have a legal presence/warehouse in India at present.

So we could have situation where parts made here are exported to their UK warehouse and then shipped back !!!

Most of the FIAT parts available recently have all been MOPAR. The shift happened a long time back itself. For example, the clutch plate changed on my car few months back was shipped from MOPAR India. Image here

Also remember a press release stating that the MOPAR warehouse is one of the largest among brands in India. Also, it doesn't make sense to make India a production hub without a warehouse!

If thats the case then why are they discussing it at the highest levels? Also this link talks about MOPAR launching in India : https://auto.ndtv.com/news/fca-india...-india-1706763

Well; it might actually increase the desirability of the TUV. Something like a poor man's compass?

Even in service bills they have removed Fiat logo and replaced it with Mopar logo.

Just back from my TD at the mall of India noida. Went there with my cousin who had pre booked the car even before I official booking had started in June. The car looks great and looks as revolutionary as the ecosport did 4 years ago. There were always many people around the car at the mall while we were around. Drove around noida and here are our impressions.

Great engine with great performance all through the rev range. I compared it with our 2013 Fortuner and I can say that lesser weight is felt considering the car was much faster to take off with similar engine specs. The interiors were quite good and with the overall luxury quotient par for the price. The front seat was nice and the white leather looks and feels premium.

Coming to the negatives. First would be the back seat. Under thigh support for people over 6 feet is a bit less. I found the seat back also a bit straight to my liking. The touch screen did take couple of taps but was still ok nothing great. The price for the 4*4 models is a bit high in my opinion. There's a 2 L premium for the variant which I know adds 4 airbags but still felt a bit high. My cousin changed his booking from the petrol AT to the diesel 4wd due to the impending gst cess on the cars. Still the dealer says he is yet to get a single 4wd till now and can't commit for delivery before the end of the month. Overall a great car but at 24L on road Delhi for Limited 4*4 without accessories it's not the bargain of the year.

Some observations:
1) The 7" screen surrounding looks a bit pale on Longitude(O) without the piano black finish as seen on the Limited variant.
2) It could have been with the seat adjustment, but I felt that the dead pedal was too tucked up inside. My legs were brushing (almost pushing) against the central console while resting it there.
3) The entire layout of the foot pedals seemed a little cramped up to me.

I own a Terrano XL-D and my dad a Creta SX(O). Planning to add a Compass to the family portfolio
