Re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Here is a good off-road comparison review from carwale. It is a must read if you are putting your money on Compass for any kind of off-road purpose.

Really? The last time I checked the on road cost of a top of the line two wheel drive Renault, it was pushing over 16 lacs on road! More like 5/10 for me. You have to look around you when you pay so much money.

Having driven a Duster extensively, there are good bits about it such as the widely discussed and praised road manners and an abuse friendly chassis. That's about it though. Is there any aspect about it that is modern? Nope.

I have not experienced the Jeep. Just looking at it is enough to confirm that it is poles apart from anything selling in its segment.

I had got call from Jeep India regarding feedback post test drive. I told him that I am interested only in petrol manual variant. The reply was that petrol automatic would be coming in October and no updates regarding petrol manual.

Where are you getting your prices from? And are you comparing pre-GST Duster & post GST compass?

The range topping 4*4 RxZ Diesel is a shade lesser than 16 in Delhi (with a good 2L discount when you walk-in), while the Petrol Compass AT is 22.

Clearly nowhere in the same price bracket , but lets compare them anyways !

Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

A lot has been said of the solid build quality as the 50+ safety features of the 2017 Compass.

Hope Jeep can have a voluntary test conducted with IIHS or ENCAP or any other crash testing agency. It will be reassuring to buy such a good SUV with a 5* crash rating.

Really don't want to be surprised like in the Mustang and a lot of other cars. Tried to look up the net and really haven't found any crash ratings for the Compass.

Only goes to show one must wait and watch a couple of months before buying the latest hot stepper. Regardless of brand. Yes, the novelty factor could wear off but production will settle to its optimal and ensure standard quality.

My experience with sales @ KHT Bangalore has not been a great one. Escalating it to Fiat.

These are only my personal opinion.
Hiran has clearly mentioned Compass is supposed to be an upgrade to Duster, it is expected to come at a premium.
But it's not 100% premium, the actual premium is around 35% going by the on road prices shared by you.

If someone has a hard budget constraint around 16lac and ride and handling is the be-all-and-end-all of judging a car, Duster is their only choice. But I think it's okay to point out that at ~30% extra cost Jeep Compass is indeed a legit upgrade considering all factors (power, interiors, exteriors, fun-factor, brand, quality, safety, etc.).

At 16 lakhs, the Suzuki SCross 1.6 makes a lot of sense with better interiors and peppy drive when compared to duster. Probably duster in AWD format makes more sense.

The only caveat will be... Would Maruti release the 1.6 in the facelift version.

Else Jeep Renegade might be the answer if it comes with 2.0 liter engine

Well,
It was clearly the drivers fault, Iam sure you would have watched the entire video, where the gentleman admitted to what he had done.

Cheers,
Pradeep.

Actually at 16 lakhs both Duster and the Scross dont make sense. The 1.6 in the S-Cross is over rated and if you have driven any of the VW diesels ( Vento or Rapid)or even a Hyundai 1.6 diesel you will realise that the 1.6 in the S-Cross ain't any big deal.

Duster scores heavily due to its ride. The S-Cross has not such USP. It's a good alternative to a C segment sedan and that's about it.

I have sent Jeep regarding handling charges, RTO commission charges and other misc charges by dealers, but they dont seem to respond. They are either aware about it or simply do not care as FCA dealers have not been making money in a long time and this may just be an opportunity for them to make something extra

A fair amount of people have written to FCA on the Compass Facebook page and FCA has responded by saying that there are no mandatory charges or accessories and everything is optional.

May be you could raise the issue there - You could ask the dealer to share a formal mandated proposal by email or on their letterhead and then post the on the FB page and wait for the response.

You stole my unspoken words... For that price we could get mid-variants of Hexa/XUV (unless buyer needs a hatch or sedan).
Maybe 16 lacs would have been okay for a combined package of exteriors+dynamics from Duster and Interiors+Grunt from S-Cross.
