It is actually a very big gamble that FCA is trying to take. Launching with the Petrol engines gives them the advantage of launching at lower price point, which creates interest.
"Prices start from 18.xx" creates more interest than "Prices start from 20.xx"

I haven't seen any reviews on the petrol compass yet. Do you have a link for that on youtube? or maybe the petrol version was not given to the auto reviewers at all

TIA.
Too early to predict. However, some key points to consider.

1. Tiguan is a CKD while Compass and Crysta are manufactured in India.

Tiguan will be considerable costlier to maintain.

2. Innova Crysta has a 5000kms service interval, as against Jeep Compass which looks like it might get a 20000km service interval.

This might offset the actual service cost advantage that Toyota might have.

(ex-showroom, Delhi)

I'd say, even at 50,000 rupees lesser than the above range, the Compass would be a steal.
I believe we shouldn't compare Toyota Innova/Fortuner with Compass as Toyota's best selling cars in India aren't VFM products. Major reason for their success being awesome ownership experience that is still a big question in FCA's case.

Compass's introductory pricing needs to be disruptive and they can follow a strategy similar to the one followed by Mahindra while they introduced XUV. As far as Compass AT is concerned, it can be priced in the range of XUV W6 AT (14 lakhs ex showroom). I guess W8 and W10 have a lot more features compared to Compass petrol AT - including 6 airbags that Compass seems to be missing on its top end AT. Please correct me if I am wrong.

So the Jeep Compass will be launched on 31st July as can be seen on twitter.

The worrying aspects are that firstly they have pushed back the launch by nearly a month and also as per Betrand D'Souza, they have not yet managed to decide on a price!

A great product can be spoilt by the shambolic way in which FCA is handling the launch.

I saw the Compass up close at Ambience Mall, Gurgaon over the weekend. The sales rep there "assured" me that it will be priced between 18 and 23 lakhs, ex-showroom.

I'm amused at how FCA Sales reps across the country are having a ball with all kind of guesstimates, while FCA senior management is still indecisive on pricing.

Good that the date is announced. Ends all confusions.

Wrong in using "pushed back". No plan was ever communicated by FCA that got delayed. It was only the expectations from people that it should be launched earlier.

Page 1 of this thread itself has the communication on this. The media drives also had clearly mentioned an August launch.

Quote:
The vehicle will be manufactured at this plant from June 2017. The media drive is also scheduled for June and the India launch of the car is expected in the third quarter of the calendar year.

Jeep wouldn't be calling and updating Bertrand D'Souza if the prices are decided or not right?

What he obviously means is the expectations and rumours around the pricing. Even in this thread we saw price expectations ranging from WRV/ Brezza to Tucson / Tiguan.

Please note FCA has still not given an official announcement over their launch dates [4th Launch I guess ]. So let's take this info also with a pinch of salt!

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

It seems they are still testing the vehicle.

I saw a test mule on Pune road today with all sort of meters put on top of the dashboard. I believe there was some equipment on the passenger seat as well.

On a separate note, the vehicle has a much better road presence than other 5 seater SUV's including Creta.

I have spotted at least on three different occasions a Compass with temporary registration stickers (no camouflage/ meters). All on Ahmednagar Pune road; within Pune limits with registration as MH12 TCxxxx. They looked almost ready for delivery; could be demo vehicles. However, only one of them was headed in the direction of the showroom. The other two went in another direction. Or perhaps they are pre assigned to some celebrities to be delivered as first launch vehicles.

I wonder if the cops check any of these temp registered vehicles for kms done? From what I recall cars with temporary plates can do a maximum of 100 kms.

Testing will continue even post launch mostly, as their are variants planned to be introduced in phases. The diesel automatic for example might be launched next year only.

5K is just a checkup service. So, if that number from the test drive car that was used by the media was set correctly, then there is every chance that the service interval will be 20,000Kms or 1 year. And I am assuming that in Compass they are going to use fully synthetic oil.

Quote:
20000km service interval will be too much for Indian conditions and will meet with criticism for sure. Already FCA has the longest interval, as far as I know.
Yeah, this is will be too much for Indian conditions and enthusiasts will go in for early service like how we do for Linea/Punto. People who drive less will meet the 1 year duration.

Jeep has revealed that it will officially launch the Compass on July 31. Guess this ends the wait once and for all!
