re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Well, the Tucson diesel Base is priced at 20,61,xxx rupees, ex-showroom Delhi, so Jeep India would be ideally targeting the Compass diesel Base (Sport variant) at a price point around 2 lakhs below it.

Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs-untitled.jpg

So a starting price of around Rs 18.6 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, for the Compass Sport 2.0L diesel looks very much feasible. Seems like they will round it off at around Rs 24-25 lakhs for the Limited (O) 4x4.

Also, that would mean a price of around Rs 16.5-17 lakhs for the Compass Sport 1.4L petrol, and finishing at around Rs 22.5-23.5 lakhs for the top-end Limited (O).

Sorry about putting a spanner in the works of those who are expecting a lower price point for the Compass, but this seems to be the right pricing.

Within the Diesels. - Isnt 5.4 - 6.4 lakhs to huge a spread from base to top variant?

If taken at 6.4 lakhs - that is 33% of the cost of the base variant!

I feel that the 18lakhs figure speculated for the base compass with all safety features and the 2.0l diesel engine seems fair.

A point to note would be that the Tucson's base variant comes with just 2 airbags and doesn't have the stand out styling of the compass, which customers in the segment might look for.

Not really.

With 5 variants excluding two 4x4 trims, that's a total of 7 different variants.

You have:

Base = Sport,
Mid = Longitude,
Upper Mid = Longitude (O),
Second Top = Limited,
Top = Limited (O),

in addition to

4x4 = Limited & Limited (O).

Features spread across all 7 trims can easily justify a 5 lakh rupees difference between base (Sport) and top 4x4 (Limited (O)) variants.

Biggest Downer is Side airbags only on the 4X4 vairant!! Why Jeep Why?

Why not offer this in the (O) variants along with other trims?

They have not shared the kerb weight of the petrol Compass
Hence have assumed the same weight as the diesel
They have not shared the BHP & Torque max rpm for the petrol either

On the highway from a purely fun to drive - from the above - the Sport Diesel should be the best - max BHP & Torque / Ton - least weight

Maybe the TBHP review can share if they feel a difference b/w the Diesel Sport & Limited 4x4

Very true. What is the point in having 50+ safety features when we can't get a petrol or a 4x2 variant with something as basic as side airbags? Even cars from 2 segments below are getting side airbags these days. Not sure what FCA is up to.

On price, salespersons have been insisting that they expect on road pricing to top out at about 25 lakh on road for the highest variants. I.e. The 4x4 manual and very closely followed by the 4x2 AT. Now it could be that they're just plain wrong from the posts above but I'm still keeping fingers crossed.

Meeting the Jeep Compass

19.9 lakhs for the Limited(O) trim, 20.9 lakhs for the Limited (O)4*4, this is probably the price that I am expecting. Anything more than 25 lakhs OTR, will see the sales dwindle to 150-200 units a month.

FCA if you are reading this, you still have time to make the corrections on your power point. For what ever the Compass has going for it, it still is a C segment SUV.

And yet they will make about the same profit with 200 units IMO. Remember, with a 20L on road price, we are taking about 16.x ex-showroom price and without GST etc., it is just about 11.x lakh. And how much do you think the cost of making this car? I am not saying that's their strategy, but it won't so bad after all as they are here to make money. And the car looks so better than the Tuscon that it deserves to sell more even if priced on par. Only point they should keep in mind is, Tuscon is a sales dud at that price.

Those were ex showroom prices that I indicated. I clearly said 25 lakhs OTR is the top out price. If FCA are ok to sell 150- 200 units per month then it's wrong strategy. People will forget the existence of the Compass in a year's time, just like no one remembers there is a Tucson around in the Hyundai showrooms. I see more Santa Fe's on road than Tucsons.

So much for FCA's PR machinery, I can't seem to find the launch time. Their Facebook page says, July 31st, live on Facebook but there is no time mentioned.
