re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

FCA, you beauty! Every pundit was guessing 18-22 and bowled over!
I think I am not in the market for an SUV right now. Or am I? Maybe I am

I saw the Compass on road for the first time today. It was TD car in Mysore. White colour TD car doesn't have much Road presence when viewed from back.

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Jeep has done the right thing by keeping the diesel variant more loaded, whatever the spreadsheet numbers may say, dealers have to push petrol with discounts even if it's a limited production variant of a premium badge.

The petrol variant should be build to order alone, I was reading an interview with the head of Mercedes India who said that diesel accounts for 70% of sales. Even the A3 petrol accounted only for 10% of sales. Turbo petrols are sensitive to load, fuel quality and throttle input, all the more reason why jeep shouldn't promote them, they'll end up with a bad rep for low mileage and thats the beginning of the end. Petrol SUVs aren't popular in this country, period.

Down the line, an automatic should top out the range. The smaller jeep should be even more interesting.

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Variant Buildup as per Compass Website,

Compass Sport - Petrol (14.95) Diesel (15.45)

Compass Longitude - Diesel (16.45)
Features in addition to Sport
  • + R17 Alloy Wheels
    + 2 More speakers, Total 6
+ Push Button Start, Key less entry
    + Power folding mirrors
    + Reverse parking sensors
    + Cornering Fog Lamps
    + Rear Fog Lamps

Compass Longitude (O) - Diesel (17.25)
Features in addition to Longitude
  • + Roof Rails
    + Bi-Projector halogen headlamps
    + Rear Parcel Shelf
+ 7" Touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
+ Dual Zone FATC with controls on touchscreen
    + Carbon Air Filter
    + LED Position Lamps

Compass Limited - Petrol AT (18.70) Diesel (18.05)
Features in addition to Longitude (O)
  • + LED Tail lamps
    + Leather wrapped steering wheel
    + Door Scuff plates
    + Reverse Parking Camera

Compass Limited(O) - Petrol AT (19.40) Diesel (18.75)
Features in addition to Limited
  • + Dual Tone Roof
    + Bi Xenon HID Headlamps

Compass Limited (O) 4x4 - Diesel (20.65) {Without Option Pack - 19.95}
Features in addition to Limited (O)
  • + Side Airbags
    + Jeep Active Drive
    + Selec-Terrain

2 variants make most sense to me:-
Compass Longitude (O) for the entry level
Compass Limited (O) 4x4 for the full fat

but, I needed a 4x4 Automatic in Diesel!!

Creta has serious competition on its hands. So does XUV500 if seating capacity required is unto 5. I am surprised to see no Diesel AT version.

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

For me the diesel Limited(O) 4x2 is the pick of the lot; at 18.75 lakhs its almost a lakh cheaper than the petrol AT Limited (O).

The dummy buttons on the steering is an eyesore, but otherwise the steering is nice and good to hold, and this probably is the first car which I liked in all the colors on offer. The black looked nice and imposing, red has a very youthful exuberance, silver and white looked very elegant (the blue was not on display). Wifey already saying that this should be our next car!

What's with ladies and this design?

My wife called me up at 11:30 and 12pm. Messaged at 12:30pm (thanks to FCA who kept postponing by 30 mins) and finally called up around 1pm to confirm the prices. Never seen her so excited about any vehicle yet!

In her case though, its the design and the build quality that left her impressed. However, we'll be able to afford only sometime by mid 2018. Long wait!

Exactly my thoughts.
No matter if it was more expensive they should have at least released an option with Diesel Auto and 4x4, there are many of us that are looking for that very option.

By that time diesel AT will be on roads and that 9speed ZF would be just too good.

With approval from HQ and Nexon out of the way, 2018 is not far away

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

I don't know if others have felt like me - I'm 6'1" and XXL frame. Initial impressions sitting in the Jeep - it seemed a little small and not very comfortable. While the prices undercut the Tucson very sweetly, unfortunately, I didn't feel the seating comfort to be similar. The Tucson felt way more comfortable.

I haven't had the opportunity to test drive the Jeep yet, but I did feel the Tucson very very solid to drive.

I agree. I did mention earlier that it feels a bit claustrophobic and the seats can become a little tight at the driver side.

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Lots of 1 -2 Yr Old XUV500s in resale market quote prices lying in this range. Just wondering how would this pricing hit resale prices of XUV and few such vehicles.

Any pointers on Fuel Efficiency of Petrol? With my limited usage Petrol can be workable option. If Petrol is the same engine from T-Jet then highly likely that FE would be in single digits only.

If the sales pick up, the number of sales n service points too will increase rapidly. Lot of wanna be businessmen waiting for right opportunities, waiting to see light at the end of tunnel. Hence not much worried about current numbers.

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

My only grouse is that the Limited(o) should have had 6 Airbags irrespective of engine and drivetrain.

On a separate note, I hope the Creta comes under pressure so that Hyundai may then at least come up with an SX(O) AT, which would turn the fence sitters who prefer Auto Transmission to probably consider Creta

Please correct me if i am missing something here.

Why would anyone spend 70K extra for a small paint job and HID bulbs? If i get HID and roof painted from outside, i am sure it would not cost me this much, right?
