I did a review of the expected 0-100 times for both engines. The Diesel figures are readily available since the 2.0 multi jet II with 170hp has been tested extensively in other countries. They are all reporting 0-100 times just under 10 seconds. So the Compass should be just a tad slower then the Tiguan which claims a 9.3 second acceleration time.

The 1.4 multi air with 6 speed dual dry clutch figures are harder to come by since the Compass with this engine/gearbox transmission does not seem to be available anywhere yet. The closest we have is the Renegade with the same drive train, and this is being reported to have 11 second acceleration time. The Compass being heavier may be a bit slower, probably close to 12 seconds.

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

I really like the Compass for what it promises on paper. Meanwhile couldn't help but observe the instrument cluster looking very unappealing. I was looking forward to some theatre, some jazz, but it appears pretty basic.

If it's a top spec they were testing, it's shocking to note that it doesn't indicate the exact door that's open; just a generic 'door ajar' icon like budget hatchbacks. I also find the steering a tad too small for the car's overall dimensions.

That said, absolutely love the menacing looks of the exterior. It's not overdone but just the right dose fit for a Jeep. It'd be great if someone could shed some light on the head of design for the Compass.

Buyers in this segment expect the car to have not only functional features but also luxury touches sprinkled all over the place. Just like a luxury car in this price range, the Jeep Compass lacks several features that are available in the Tucson and the Tiguan. Once the two competitors start firing at it with their luxury features, the Compass does nothing but put on a blank face. It has all the safety bits but runs short on creature comfort. The Tucson has fewer features than the Volkswagen here but it also costs less, thus making a strong case for itself. On paper, the Compass lags a couple notches behind the rivals but an aggressive price tag can certainly give it an upper hand. The Jeep brand is also worth a lot for some buyers.

A couple of useful infographics by CarDekho:

  • Jeep Compass will come with dual-front airbags as standard, while the 4x4 diesel variant offers a total of six airbags
  • Standard braking safety tech include electric parking brake, anti-lock brake system with electronic brake distribution, HBFC, PBA, all four disc brakes and adaptive brake lights
  • Hill start assist and ESC (electronic stability control) are also standard
  • Higher models get TCS (traction control system) and electronic roll mitigation
  • Offers cornering fog lamps, rear fog lamps and daytime running lamps (non-LED)
  • DST (Dynamic Steering Torque) is also offered. When vehicle instability is detected, DST works in conjunction with electronic power steering and the ESC modules by providing torque to the steering wheel and guiding the driver to correct the course of the vehicle.
  • Rides on all-season rubber

Don't know when these automobile reviewers will stop making such condescending remarks! We would like to see what they actually did and let the owners decide what they are going to do with their Compasses.

Zigwheels has got it wrong, Compass is not 4WD, it is AWD as well like the Tiguan.

Zigwheels table shows front parking sensor for only Tiguan, whereas it is available in Tucson as well. Not a well researched table I must say from the media house.

There is one in the 7" screen.

The international version gets it on the MID though.

Nitpicking: The Compass gets an electric park brake. I use the hand brake a lot - each and every time the car is stationary, the usage is involuntary now. So, a traditional one would have been better.

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Evo India(Sirish Chandran) has uploaded a couple of videos on his fb account of doing off roading in some seriously bad muddy trails where you can't even think of going without AWD and the compass was handling it well. I believe it will turn out to be a great off roader, and a bit better than the competition.
Not sure though about the lack of features. Hope they can give a significant price difference to justify that.

Btw, Are team bhp mods testing it in Goa currently? I'm just asking since there has been no clear confirmation

More on the tyres. This time from AutoX

But, while 18-inch wheels would look good, they wouldn’t be able to match the current set of wheels and tyres for ride comfort. The first thing that strikes you when you get out on the road in the Compass is its magic carpet ride. Not only is the suspension extremely compliant, but you can immediately tell that the chassis is very rigid. Absolutely nothing on the road surface upsets this car, and no road imperfections make their way into the cabin – at all! But that’s not say that the Compass wallows or sways when you show it a corner. Sure, it has a little bit of body roll – but, on the whole, the ride-and-handling balance is near-perfect for our roads.

The other thing that surprises you is just how much grip the Firestone tyres provide – both on and off-road. You can throw the Compass into a corner like it’s a hot hatch, with the confidence that the suspension and tyres will extract the grip to enable you to power out.
If you are still looking for upgrade, here are the theoretical numbers, but not sure of their availability in the market and prices. Perfect choices being 245/55 R17 and 245/50 R18 -

Believe all they meant is this smooth steel finish which was a trademark of that era, whereas it's all plastic / leather now.

No, Compass is a 4WD unlike Tiguan which is an AWD.

Can you provide me the source for your statement above, if any?

Can you please let me know the following things about Compass and Tiguan -

1. Engine layout is transverse or longitudinal in each of these vehicles
2. Primary drive goes to front wheels or rear wheels

It sure should tell you which door is open, even a 2009 make Punto tells you that.

Look again at the tell tale you have circled, and it does show that it is the front right door that is open.

So what separates the Compass 2 wheel drive from the Hexa , XUV and the Creta ? Shouldn't they all be on the same price bracket considering the Hexa and XUV are bigger and the Compass is Creta sized ?

Agreed on a slight premium for the Jeep DNA.

I believe they are both transversely mounted with the primary drive going to the front wheels.

Compass is actually bigger than the Creta, its somewhere between the Creta and the Tucson in terms of size but more on the Tucson size.

Thanks a lot. So yes i think 245/55 R17 should be the ONE to go for with a different set of alloys.

One question. Those LED lights on headlight, are those parking lights like the ones on XUV? And the ones on bumper (non led ones) are the DRL's?
