Re: Mahindra XUV500 facelift coming, to get power hike. EDIT: Now launched @ Rs 12.32 lakhs

Happened to see the vehicle in one of the Chennai showrooms. Testdrive of the vehicle was not yet available, so i can comment only on the appearance.

Overall it seems to be a nice refresh. The front looks much mature and the interiors are vey plush, much better than the outgoing version. However, i could see some inconsistent panel gaps here and there.

The dashboard is now soft to touch, thanks to the faux leather treatment, however the piano black console is a fingerprint magnet, and those buttons are not soft touch. The leather seats are real nice, but the thigh support could be better (I'm 6'1).

The rear, doesn't look so bad in person, but is not as good as the front i feel. I do like the new tail lights better. Audio quality is up now a bit, but not by much.

Someone here mentioned that the front doors are heavier than the rear. Spot on! What an eye to detail! I would've missed it if i hadn't read your post earlier

Attaching some pictures i took at the showroom!!

P.S: Tried properly reordering the pics in mobile, i couldn't do it, will do it from desktop later.

Thank you, it was me

They have damped front doors (I believe) and moved tweeters to A pillar in order to bring sound stage upfront. Previous generations ones had horrendous location for tweeters (right below front screen). For Mids, XUV always had great location, right up their on doors and not around foot wells. Thank God they kept them there only.

Took a test drive on Saturday. I had a friend with me who owns the 1st gen XUV, so had to take his opinion too. I liked the power available and the low end torque. I was able to drive at a very sedate speed in 3rd gear without an fuss, the little chance I got, in Delhi traffic, to pull the machine it responded really well. Low speed ride is a little bumpy in my opinion. My friend felt the same, and he also mentioned that the low end torque and the power upgrade are definitely noticeable. Looks are absolutely fine for me, I never liked the tail lights of the previous generations so this looks good to me. The chrome tabs on the front grille I don't like much, but I can live with that. Only time will tell how many of them will fall off. The interiors are fine to be honest, nothing ground breaking or extraordinary. They do the job well. I like the features on offer, that's always been a plus point of the XUV.

I have decided to buy this and am working on getting the finance bit taken care of. It's going to be a substantial upgrade for me coming from a swift Zdi 2012 model. Have been eyeing this launch for a long time. W9 variant fits my needs. I would have loved extra air bags, but gotta live with it. The music system demands an upgrade, for those who did follow my ice install in my swift, that's just me. The speakers will change, will have to add a digital sound enhancer and woofers and damp the doors as well. Also will look for aftermarket leather seat install to my liking.

Took a look at the facelifted xuv in a mall. From the interior standpoint the leather seats are the biggest talking point. The piano black dashboard at the center is tacky and spoils the premium feel overall. They should have changed that too.

Had a quick drive in it last night. Hated it - such talent screwed up by stupid ergonomics, horrible seats and controls (gearshift). Good power delivery though

Hate is a strong word for a car that has definitely improved substantially over it's older generation and I think, given I have test driven both Hexa and XUV on the same tarmac without a lot of time gap, I found the new XUV ride almost as good as Hexa on mildly potholed roads and plain tarmac. Can't comment on really bad roads since I haven't driven the new XUV on totally broken roads yet. My gripe with the new XUV was the steering. It has only gone downwards since the 1st generation vs everything else which has slowly improved. It's too light for the size of the car, and hence gives a sense of imperfection. Though I couldn't fault it's accuracy.

Keen to read what went so horribly wrong in your drive?

Re: Mahindra XUV500 facelift coming, to get power hike. EDIT: Now launched @ Rs 12.32 lakhs

My wife and me while on a trip to Delhi last week was talking a lot on if we can afford an XUV and how stupid it would be to sell our 1 year city for it. Basically we were looking for excuses not to sell the City and get the XUV. As soon as we finished our security check at the Airport, there was a kiosk in front of us with a gleaming new XUV. We immediately walked towards it, opened the door and sat in it. Liked it quite a bit.
Now we are looking for excuses to sell the City and buy one.

By the way, what is the difference between W11 and W11(O). According to the website it seems it is only the rim size. Anything else I am missing ?

The 18-inch diamond-cut dual tone alloys & the optional AWD.

There seems to be some technical glitch from the Motoroctane’s Youtube Channel’s part. The video is no longer available there, will repost the new link as soon as it gets back.

I believe he is talking about screwed up ergonomics and not its ride quality. I have not driven the old gen XUV, so I cant comment, but I test drove the new one, and I wasnt comfortable with the drive position even with steering tilted to the lowest position (which is how I have in my current ride). This was the same opinion from my friend who test drove along with me. Additionally the old reviews from the forum members raved about how the seats were a plush place to be in. I don't share that sentiment based on my experience with the new XUV500. Its a highly competent vehicle, but I am not sure how tired (or) fresh one would be after a 8 hour drive.

I still stand by hate but the standards are still woefully short.

Bingo!

All the contact points of the XUV sucked -

Steering - no reach - could not get comfortable
Seats - meant for thin midgets
Gearshift - The throw is so vast that the gearshift needs to be luminous at night in order to spot where it has gone
Brakes - improved but long travel
clutch - long travel

I was told the XUV auto would change my mind on some aspects
