As per media reports, Volvo will be launching the new-gen XC60 crossover in India by the end of this year. While the automaker hasn't made an official announcement yet, speculations suggest that the XC60's official launch will be scheduled sometime in the month of November 2017.

Volvo had globally unveiled the second-generation XC60 at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The crossover is built on Volvo's SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform. Hence, it shares its underpinnings with the XC90, S90 and V90.

The India-spec model will likely come only in the top-end Inscription trim level from the start. However, lower variants might be introduced later if the carmaker receives satisfactory demand for the crossover. At the time of launch, the XC60 is expected to come only with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, rated at 232 BHP and 480 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.0-litre T6 petrol might be introduced at a later date.

The XC60 will be equipped with safety features like adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, distance alert, lane keeping aid, run-off road mitigation, driver alert control, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist and 7-airbags. The crossover will also come with a 9-inch Sensus infotainment system, which will be mated to a Bowers and Wilkins sound system and will get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Great news! The new XC60 has been receiving good reviews worldwide, with few magazines rating it as a more matured version of the SPA architecture than even the XC90 which made Volvo more of a modern brand to reckon with.

Also, considering that Volvo has already announced the plans to start local assembly of the SPA platform cars soon - the pricing (if not during the launch) would hopefully be good.

I have a new found love for these Volvo cars Top of the line safety features and aggressive styling, they are slowly but surely making in roads in Indian market. As planned by Volvo, with local assembly coupled with GST they should price there products even more attractively. Volvo should seriously look now to expand there dealer network.

Even Shumi from OD was there, and he also confirmed the launch by this year end. Good news as per him is that all radar based system will be active on the Indian XC60, as permissions are in place. Bad thing? Will be a CBU for now.

It should see decent numbers hopefully, its got its great looks from its older sibling the XC90 which is becoming a more common sight than any other Volvo in all these years. Hopefully they get the pricing right since its a CBU, as I feel even the XC90 is slightly on a higher side. Since it lacks the 'badge value' of rival brands, they have to fight in the market with better pricing.

My brother recently bought the XC90 in the US and i spent about 4 weeks with him and covered about 3000 miles on it! I can assure you it is the most comfortable car i have ever sat in! Very well built, very nice swedish minimalist interiors and a great audio system! And don't even get me started on those seats! All that distance covered and felt absolutely zero fatigue! Truly a worthy competitor to the likes of the X5 and Q7. More features too.

If they say the XC60 is an even better interpretation of that car, count me in!

Am eagerly waiting for this launch, especially given how we in India will get all the safety and driver assist features that Volvo is renowned for on this car. I like the spec that is coming to India, except that it doesn't get the paddle shifts. That is optional and we won't get it. But baring that, the car seems to be feature packed, with a class best cabin in terms of fit and finish, with air suspension that can lowered or raised, with 360 camera and a multitude of driver aids. Only concern is the price given that initially, it will come via the CBU route.

Also, given that the Audi Q5 launch is expected to be earlier than the XC60, it gives Volvo the advantage of pricing this car appropriately and entice some of the Audi customers. Exciting times for someone looking for a car in the 50 - 60 lac bracket what with the new generation of the X3 due later this year (although it's only expected in India next year) and the new generation of the 5 series due this month.

Given that Volvo India has revealed that XC60 was it's best selling model, wouldn't it make sense to start the CKD operations with it? It would also have a wider reach than the XC90.
also this seems like the perfect time to attack this segment given that Audi and BMW haven't announced the timelines for bringing their new models. JLR models are also 2-3 years or more old. It's only really the GLC which the XC60 will be up against.

If they can manage a price of under 50 lacs for the 2 litre Diesel (D4), it would definitely make a dent in the GLC sales.

The second-generation Volvo XC60 was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Now, according to a media report, the new XC60 will be launched in India in December 2017.



The new XC60 is based on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) which underpins the XC90, V90 and S90 sedan. In India, the XC60 will be offered only in ‘Inscription’ trim. The top-spec XC60 Inscription comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, air-suspension, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, head-up display, Nappa leather upholstery, etc. It is also expected to be equipped with multiple active safety systems.



Volvo will likely offer a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, twin-turbocharged D5 diesel engine on the XC60. This engine produces 232 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 480 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,250 rpm and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive will be offered as standard. Volvo offers a smaller D4 diesel engine with 188 BHP in the international market, which could be introduced at a later date.

Autocar India's Review of 2017 Volvo XC60

Volvo’s new XC60 is a mid-size luxury SUV that does almost everything right.

For the time being, the XC60 is available with a single engine option and in a single fully-loaded version.

There are also a plethora of driving aids like a 360-degree camera, semi-automatic parking, blind-spot assist and lane departure warning. Importantly, the XC60 is the latest Volvo to feature radar-based safety aids like adaptive cruise control that can automatically adjust speed depending on the speed of the vehicle ahead.

The new XC60 is powered by Volvo’s modular 2.0-litre diesel engine, albeit in the higher of its states of tune, the engine makes a solid 235hp and 480Nm of torque. The engines comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that channels power to all four wheels.

With 223mm of ground clearance (with the suspension at full extension) and all-wheel drive, the Volvo should tackle mild trails without hassle.

Expect it to be priced around Rs 55 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom). For the money, the XC60 could just be the best mid-size luxury SUV out there.

XC60 is XC90 minus the 3rd row of seats, stiffer suspension and better power to weight ratio. As a XC90 owner the design is boring, it looks exactly the same as my XC90 in all angles (interior and exterior) which is a big downer to me. I wish they atleast tried doing some subtle changes to differentiate it from its big brother.

Suggestion to prospective buyers wait for R - Design model.
