re: Hyundai Elite i20 Facelift, now launched at Rs 5.35 lakhs

Hyundai's i20 facelift in Europe, testing begins. Looks set to adopt the family grill.

Could be different from the Indian version.

Quote:
as the Indian market Elite i20 has been seen several times already. But it looks like the two won't share their design completely.

This i20 facelift clearly has a new grille design - you can see it pushing up against the camouflage tarp. The old hexagonal look is getting edges down the sides, much like we see on the i30 and the 2018 Hyundai Sonata. But the main difference is the placement.
Quote:
Looking elsewhere, we see that the i20 has some refreshed fog lights integrated into a much cleaner bumper design, as well as what is likely to be LED projectors

Could be, could not be too. The Indian photos (as is the norm with most Indian photos) are taken with extremely poor resolution cameras with poor auto-focus and lighting.. the photos taken of test cars abroad are taken with cameras that have rapid focus and image stabilization.. even cars moving at high speeds will appear still and remain stable. The best photos of moving cars should be taken from 1080p videos, just record the whole passing-by and choose the frames where the shot is crisp and clear. The Indian variant has the same tail-lamps with horizontal stripes a-la i30 and if one can see the photo of the India-spec model above, it can be seen clearly that the headlamps swoop more downwards with the bumper being visible just above it before being hidden by the camo-cover. I guess the tiny grille portion connecting the two headlamps are no more there, instead the lights will meet the single grille just before it tapers down into the cascading shape.

Hope it comes with sunroof I feel its nice to have a small slot to look above into. It also needs to have every practical feature as standard including split folding rear seats, rear wipers as default, seat-belt adjusters, vertical split boot space with false floor, speed activated auto-locking of doors, MID etc, just as in the European variant.. if not then this so called "facelift" is of no use.

re: Hyundai Elite i20 Facelift, now launched at Rs 5.35 lakhs

As dark.knight mentions, I don't think it's gonna be different from the i20 we get here. There may be feature differences but the European i20 itself won't be much different from our local counterpart. Looking at both spy shots, I can deduce that the body shell is the same and so are the tail lights. Unlike some other Hyundais, i20 is an exclusive European model designed and engineered in Europe and Hyundai have been consistent in launching the latest iterations here, give or take a few months. I reckon they'll follow a similar strategy again.

Now that the new Verna is launched with a plethora of features, may we wish that some of those percolate over to the facelift i20?
More than the gizmos, I wish for a Asta spec + 1.4L P engine + the 6 speed AT from Verna.

Hyundai Elite facelift likely to be unveiled at the Auto expo 2018.

Quote:
the car will see minor changes to its tailgate and will come with new-look tail-lamps with LED inserts, similar to the ones seen on the new Verna. On the inside, expect the new i20 to share interior bits with the new Verna, including the updated infotainment system.

re: Hyundai Elite i20 Facelift, now launched at Rs 5.35 lakhs

The i20 can do without an interior update, it's already pretty good, if not best in class. The recent feature deletions from mid variants was a bummer though, the Sportz was esp. VFM.

What this car needs is a better petrol motor, but Hyundai will mostly just add a couple of bling features, jack up prices and call it a day.

This car begs for a turbo petrol The diesel engine is a gem in all aspects but same can't be said about petrol except for refinement and smoothness.

It's time for Hyundai to up the ante in petrol engine segment. It's competitors like Tata, VW and Maruti Suzuki are already offering petrol turbo engines as standard or option.

Agree! The current engine on the i20 is very ordinary and does not do justice to its interiors, overall appeal and price. I doubt if Hyundai would give it a Turbo petrol, considering they do not have even the Verna with any new such engine. If they had such a
Plan they could have easily brought it in the Verna since it would have qualified for lower GST. So Turbo petrol in the i20, not now for sure. My guess is that they will load the refresh with some gizmos, some
Personalisation options like black roof etc and push it from a novelty point.

re: Hyundai Elite i20 Facelift, now launched at Rs 5.35 lakhs

I wish that Hyundai stops cutting features , stops the practice of adding bling in name of features, makes ABS+Airbags standard across range and adjusts the pricing to bring back the VFM factor.
Noticed a recent example of elite i20 asta without rear wash/wipe, and steel wheels today on road - but it had a black roof !!

I think I did see a camoued version once near Thiruvallur alongside a Verna. The way both the cars came into the service road from main road left me spell bound considering I saw the Hyundai badge. It took me two seconds to get back my mind & the cars whizz passed me by then.

The latest scoop on the bling part : the white arrow design on the upper area of the headlamp will now light up on the facelift.

The 1.4 will most likely be replaced with a 1.2 turbo petrol. The current petrol engine does not do justice to the i20 chassis
