Volvo is expected to launch the new V90 Cross Country in India by the end of July 2017. Ahead of the car's official launch, it has been spotted in Mangalore without any camouflage.

The V90 Cross Country was globally unveiled in September 2016. It is essentially a rugged version of the regular V90, which is based on Volvo's flagship sedan - the S90. Visually, the V90 Cross Country is differentiated from the regular estate model through the presence of 20-inch alloy wheels, black plastic cladding over the wheel arches, prominent roof rails and skid plates on the front and rear bumpers.

In addition to the cosmetic changes, the V90 Cross Country has also been designed and engineered to be more off-road friendly. It gets an additional 65 mm of ground clearance over the regular V90 estate and a Borg-Warner all-wheel drive (AWD) system as standard.

It is not yet clear whether or not the India-spec V90 Cross Country will borrow its powertrain options from the S90 sedan. However, speculations suggest that it will be offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that develops 222 BHP and 470 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that powers the XC90 SUV. Transmission duties are likely to be handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Oh! Wow! It was just last night that I was watching the Motor Trend video review of this car https://youtu.be/FayKAK3Qg2o to relax, after a couple of very difficult calls, and I was really wishing that I could buy this car.

Now I can buy it. If I had the money, that is stupid:

EDIT: Here is review from Autocar UK. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review...-cross-country. Impressive vehicle, this.

Overdrive has been tweeting about their drive from mangalore to coorg in the V90 CC.

Looks amazing but we all know the fate of any station wagon that comes to india. hope this one changes things.

Their build quality is second to none and the notion that "volvos are ugly" has turned into "after maseratis, volvos are the most beautiful machines around"

ODMag's and Autocar's reviews are up now, along with a small photo gallery. Apparently the media are scheduled for a Off-road section today after driving it on the road yesterday.

On another note, those 20" alloys are simply mindblowingclap:

Technical specifications of the V90 Cross Country are here:

I have a thing about station wagon/estate cars but sadly none are offered in India. Here in the UK you can see a plethora of options from the humble Seat Ibiza, Golf Estates to the Merc E class estates. They simply look wonderful.

This Volvo V90 is right up there along with the Mercedes CLS Shooting brake, now that was a looker.

Cheers

Looks superb and I wish this would introduce the lost segment that India once had. On the other hand, the reviewer wasnt enthusiastic like others. :D

Volvo V90 Cross Country to launch in India on July 12

The 2017 Volvo V90 Cross Country is scheduled to be launched in India on July 12, 2017. This will be the third Volvo Cross Country model to go on sale in India, after the V40 Cross Country and the S60 Cross Country.

This might just open up the much lost segment back to India with new fervor that people of this country never did before!

I always admired station wagons especially the faster ones from the German three. No doubt the V90 looks apart with Volvo's new design language and Thor's Hammer LED headlights. I think the V90 is the second luxury station wagon currently in India after the Audi RS6 Avant and the V90 being more practical one with its diesel engine and massive ground clearance. It is good to see that Volvo is aggressive in India where the three Germans are gaining market day by day.

This car is mouth watering delicious. What handsome looks - better even than the S.90. Good for Volvo. As an aside - when OEMs sell to celebrities do they sell at a discount? - give it free:eek: or demand & receive the full price. Now I will ask my kids to educate me on Mr Hooda. Must be a sensible man if he is endorsing a Volvo.
