If they are going to import a car, why not just import the Golf GTI?

The locally produced MQB platform is, according to VW's own estimates, about two years away. So the local Polo isn't gonna happen anytime soon. Unless they import that too, which is besides the whole point of having a small car in their portfolio.

And if they want to sell a "premium" car at a premium price, they might as well get the Golf GTI. Let the enthusiasts have at it. You do some brand building and you make some money while you are at it. Get away from the herd. VW can't compete on price anyway.

Sure, the Golf GTI is going to be pricey, but who cares? They are not looking to set the sales charts on fire anyway.

Had gone to VW showroom to book the Polo GT TSI today. After the initial discussions, requested them for a TD to be arranged. In the meantime another customer had taken the car for a TD so while waiting for it, the SA instead offered me to TD the Polo GTI till the GT TSI returned. I just couldn't refuse it.

Central console tilted towards the driver. Nice HU with a large screen and clear fonts

Beautiful flat bottom steering wheel. Pleasure to hold, loved the paddles.

Instrument cluster (Loved the MID)

GTI badging on the steering wheel

The pedals

Front Seats with brilliant bolstering (kept me comfortable). Don't like the pattern used on the seats (reminds me of Bermuda!!)

Didn't push the car much since it was low on fuel plus had to return to work (SA offered to get the car home for a longer TD if I wanted!). I can still feel that surge in acceleration when I had floored the pedal in 3rd gear.

I have no words to express after driving the Polo GTI. I enquired if they had any more units of the Polo GTI left.

And???

I wonder what they would quote for the TD car? Its only done 18xx KM's, not bad I guess if it comes with 4 yr warranty!

No new stocks. That's the only car they have.

Didn't enquire for the price since it was a TD car even though it's run less than 2,000 kms. A TD car is a TD car. Will be abused definitely.

I called up all the Volkswagen dealers in Chennai to enquire about the polo GTI. However it appears there is no stock and also the production has been stopped.
Is this true?

Though the dealership didn’t specify the reason for production stop however I would like to know from fellow BHPians if they are aware of this news.

Yes. The New generation of Polo GTI is on sale now. VW India is rumored to bring this model to the Indian market ?( as CBU)

This one would make much better sense as it is a newer gen model and looks considerably different than the regular Polos of India which are still stuck in previous gen. It is much more spacious and has 5 doors making it more practical. A manual transmission would offer a nice differentiation over Octavia RS, but it won't happen considering how the Germans love pushing auto boxes in our market. Hope it is sold at a sane price, although it is highly unlikely.

Agree they should have done best of 3, it seemed like the GTI driver was lazy to take off...

BTW, ACI was wrong to quote GTI is 1368 CC! How can they miss this???

This can be attributed to the absence of launch control in the Polo GTI. Can somebody confirm this?

Without launch control, the Polo is bound to lose 3-0.

Someone in ACI is going to get reprimanded for copying the specs of the pre-facelift Polo GTI, which was powered by a 1.4l twin-charged (supercharged and turbocharged) motor.

Without launch control, the Polo is bound to lose 3-0.

No Suhaas, no launch control in the GTI. But as Airwind mentioned, that driver did not look like he was interested in launching the car! It looked like a regular sedate take off sans any wheelspin.

I'm looking to purchase a pre owned GTI, do we have any for sale currently? Would prefer a stock car.

A car from MH would be preferable, but open to other states as well if its a clean vehicle!
