This is a car that would be bought to drive hard... But hopefully, that is what it is built for and it should be good for years of the same and several owners.

VW has reduced the ex showroom price of the GTI by another 2.5 lakhs - 17.49 lakhs ex showroom as against the earlier 19.99.

However, prospective buyers beware:

1. It is MY 2016 car which means it would have been round for 2 MY's by the time you've got it.

2. More importantly, a car of this sort lying around for more than a year could have developed a few electronic / electrical gremlins that could surface later. Some of this may even be beyond repair / require major repairs.

3. The spare parts on this car would be prohibitely expensive and would take quite a long time to source.

4. The new version of the GTI would be out soon.

But be in no doubt, it's the most fun you can have at this price point.

Checked with VW Delhi, Ex Showroom is 16.3, so you'd be looking at 19.5 OTR.
If you can knock off more from the Insurance, then close to 19.2 odd.

Mumbai ex-showroom is 16.49L according to a message I just received. They have 5 cars in stock.

I'm actually wondering how much they ended up selling to have such high inventory.

Hope in the future they learn from Skoda who managed to sell twice that amount of the vRS in a month from launch!

Unlike the vRS the GTI launch itself was a stock clearance exercise (just before the international launch of new Polo). Ideally the new generation Polo GTI should be in the range of 15-16 lakhs; here they are trying to hand off the old gen for that price.

They badly overpriced it to start with and struggled to sell the small number of cars planned. I believe the total number isn't much more than 120 to 150. What was supposed to be a brand building exercise has done the exact opposite I feel because of the pricing goof up.

Right now they are desperate to clear the stocks before they close their books for the year on 31st Dec. Best time to buy one for enthusiasts is now. Just 3 days and very few cars left.

From what I know there are more than 68 cars that were still with dealers. They only managed to sell 25 odd cars till the last month.
